This is a solid article Desrt.  Third in a series from that author.  Quite a body of work.  As you say it will take two years to read and also serve as a late nite ambien substitue.  It is good for us to stretch our brains with stuff like this.  

Replicative homestatis:  a theory about why the virus doesn't runamuck and kill its host pronto or, convesely, succumb to our complex hoards of immune machinery.  It has the smarts to  hide under our immune radar, yet stay active enough to replicate slippery virions capable of evading the bludgeon of combo tx.  It's a wily organism, if it is in fact an organism.

Or ahem, something like that :-)  A year after geno1 combo tx my VL is 3 million. No cryoglobs, normal enzymes.   Have I achieved replicative homeostatis?  Stay tuned.  Maybe another PCR in 6 mos.  Biops in a year.

Wow, that article had me with my med dictionary out to make sure I was reading it right.  I think in laymen terms the jist of the abstract was something most of us with Hep C have come to understand.  Which is amazing in itself, as there is sooo much the medical community does not understand about the virus.  Like my daughter, the baby doctor likes to say, virus' are the "new frontier".  So that must be why I feel like a wagon ran over me!

Interesting stuff, although I don't understand all of it!  Reading the comments about genotype 1b made me wonder if this is why I relapsed.  We really do need new meds to treat with.
