resistent on therapy

2 years ago, I had acute Hep C, gen.1-b. My doctors were waiting to see if my body can be negative by itself. After year and a half I started with therapy (pegasys once a week +copegus 1000 mg per a day). Now I am at 41 weeks into treatment. I started the therapy with viral load 170.000 IU/mL, after 6 weeks viral load was around 1 mil, and than after 12 weeks I was around 10.000 IU/mL, but after 24 weeks my result were around 11.000.000 IU/mL, then after 30 week the result were more than 850.000 IU/mL, and now I’m waiting the results after 36 week.  They want to stop my therapy, I gas I’m not a good responder. I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t doing drugs, I don’t do anything. I’m very worried about my helth. ALT, AST and Thrombosis are normal.  Is there some new tretmant....... for HCV gen.1-b

"I saw mine about a month ago and he said there is nothing new for those of us with gen 1b."

Okay, where are you getting this stuff from?  What makes you think that treatment is not advisable for Genotype 1b and that there is nothing new for Genotype 1b?  Have you heard of Telaprevir or Boceprevir?  R7126?  Any of the PI's coming through the channels?  What about clinical drug trials?

And what do you do as a Hep C Trainer that you would tell people with Genotype 1b that treatment is not advisable for them and that there are no new treatment drugs for them?  Makes me wonder where you got your training from??

I HAD Genotype 1a AND 1b.  I had treatment and was cured.  Mind you, I was on a clinical drug trial but I'm by far definitely not the first Genotype 1b to get a cure and certainly won't be the last.  I'm rather concerned that you're leaving the impression that treatment is hopeless for Genotype 1b!!

Sorry to hear you did not respond. I agree that you should stop therapy. Actually you should have stopped at 24 weeks since you still had a viral load. Unless of course you have severe liver damage then treating would have helped even as a non-responder

There is a new drug coming out next year called Telaprevir. This has been proven to help non-responders like yourself.

Best of luck

I agree 100% with copyman. Since your virus isn't responding to the tx there is no sense in putting any more in your body because they are rough on other things besides just the virus.

The new drugs that are coming out next year will give you a much better chance of killing the virus, so don't give up hope yet.

I have HEPC, gen 1-b.  My doctors advised against having treatment as type 1b does not have a very good response.  Your viral load is only an indicator of just that, viral load...it doesn't really correlate to advancement of the disease to fibrosis or cirrohsis of the liver.  I am on the west coast and have found that treatment recommendations vary greatly from the east coast. My borther in law in florida had the same and they treated him twice, and it came back both times.  Have you have a liver biopsy?  I am a HEPC trainer
and encourage you to go to the HEPC website and read as much as you can.  Listen to your doctors....I saw mine about a month ago and he said there is nothing new for those of us with gen 1b.  Good luck!

Agree with copyman and the others that you should have stopped treatment at 24 weeks as you were not undetectable for the virus at that time.  There ARE new treatments coming along - Teleprevir and Boceprevir are two of the ones to watch and there are clinical drug trials you can look into at clinicaltrials.gov

If you had acute Hep C two years ago, your liver damage is likely very negligible at this point and you'll have time to wait for the new treatments.  There almost certainly will be no rush for you.  Hepatitis C usually moves along very slowly however it's not the same for everyone so you'll simply have to have your doctors monitor and keep an eye on things.

Don't despair - there ARE options for Genotype 1b.

Here is a pretty cool site, I'm sorry you did not respond.

Jingle you might want to forward that site to your doctor.
