I just recieved a copy of the letter from the hospital but cant understand if what the doc told me is correct
he told me my viral load was 58,000
the letter says
she has a positive pcr with a viral load of 5.8x 10^4 RNA iu/ml
her HCV genotype is 1a which i was told at the hospital
it says we attempted a fibroscan but were unable to due to her increased body habitus (i found this funny guess i am a wee bit over weight lol)
she will recieve notifacation in due course to start her treatment
so there it is is my vl 58000 then i am baffeled

Sweetie, I'm newly diagnosed too and this is all overwhelming to me as well.  I'm a genotype 1a also, stage , and my viral load is 13 million !!!  So, don't sweat the 58 thousand.  HUGZ !

58000 IU/ml is a low viral load. (5.8 x 10^4 RNA IU/ml is just another way of expressing this number.) A low viral load increases the likelihood of you getting a rapid viral response on treatment, and thus increases your chance of success.

Youve tested positive for HCV and your viral load is low. Thats all I can really tell you from the info above. Your Viral load flucuates and doesnt mean alot UNLESS your treating. The viral load is what they try to get down during treatment.
Your gnotype 1A is the most common and the most resistant to treatment. (Thats my VL also)
Hope I was of some help.

A biopsy is the best way to determine liver damage IF ANY.
Goog luck to you.
