I have to say to you all as a community have been better friends to me then some of my so called friends. I recently had a conversation with someone who didn't bother to give me a call last year during Tx, and I know now for sure I have been judged and rejected for something I did as a foolish 20-year-old, over 40 years ago. Who is so perfect in this life to judge someone else? Some of my friends really stepped up, others showed their true colors. It was an interesting life experience. Truly searchin1 you will find friendship and support here.
Hi Searching. No one really cares how you acquired Hep C as most of us honestly don't know. What we DO care about is for you to get treated and CURED!!!!
You will live a long healthy life free from this virus. The liver is very giving and can/will rejuvenate with sound nutrition, drug and alcohol free, and living life to the fullest. Listen, we ALL have made mistakes in our lives and no one should ever judge you ever.
I'm soooo very happy that you are taking the steps and moving forward with getting rid of this virus. The sky is the limit and you can have an amazing life ahead of you.
We will support you every step of the way!
......Kim
Hey, We haven't heard back from you yet. Have you got your Viral Load and Genotype from your Dr yet?
Keep intouch. It will actually help you to feel better, talking to others with the same problem.
Blessings,
Pat
EVERYBODY DIES ---NOT EVERYBODY LIVES ---FOR TODAY --ENJOY TODAY THATS ALL WE HAVE
Now I think you should forget about how long before you "die" and figure out how you are going to Live Life Out Loud. there are things you need to do, like get rid of HepC and keep your liver healthy. Get to living.

Most of us here are kids of the 60s and 70s, we all smoked pot and drank and a lot of other things. Got mine in 1990 I think from a blood transfusion, but who knows I may have gotten it as a child; didn't get it from any other drug use, but who cares; doesn't matter how you got it, just get rid of it and stay rid of it. All we can do is try to be healthy and keep moving forward. I too am in that age bracket at 58.
Great advice for searchin 1. I was in the process of posting my comment to him and it took me some time to finish it. My comment is close to yours for him also. I went into a little more detail about how I got it, but not ashamed. Not judging anyone. IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!. Hope everyone does well on their tx meds. All we can do is HOPE for a good outcome. Stay POSITIVE. And try to live a healthy lifestyle.
Hi: My hep C was also from drug use back in 1970. Peer pressure. Dirty needle and heroin. Dumb kid!! Anyway, I have been living with this since then. I am 62 now and have had a 48 week round of tx Peg-Int and Rib. in 2012, came back but with a lower viral load than before tx. Now I am at the end of 2nd week on a 12 week course of Harvoni. So far so good. Going for 2nd week blood work Monday to see if all is going well. They diagnosed me with Hep A because I lied to my family and the Doctor about my drug use and they never checked my arms. So hep A it was. And I had no clue about B or C. I was jaundiced, that;s how the kids at school that got me into this mess knew I had it. I did not know anything about hep. So they kept me home from school a while and they came to the house to do blood work and said I was ok to go back to school after a month. Then had blood work done when I was older and they said I had hep B antibodies in my blood but that it had passed. It wasn't until I had blood work done to see if I had Lyme disease that for some reason they did a full work up on hep also. That was when they told me I tested pos. for Hep C. So here we are.
I am not much of a drinker. If I have 5 drinks a year that's something. I quit smoking 20 years ago. I do not do recreational drugs any longer, the only thing I never did was smoke crack (THANK GOD, I HAVE AN ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN RUINED IF I HAD TRIED IT) stopped that about the same time I quit smoking. I was a big drinker when I was younger but that phase passed and now just an occasional social drinker. I have minimal scarring on my liver, no signs of Cirrhosis at all. I have fatty liver probably from all the crap I ate until I realized I wasn't doing myself any favors. Also I am Diabetic and take insulin at night and trying to lose weight now and lowering my blood sugar and lessening the amount of insulin I take. Finally got that wake up call.
So, do another round of tx, no alcohol and try to stay away from fried foods and do some research on foods that the liver has a hard time processing. I AM HOPING THAT THE HARVONI WILL CURE THIS FOR ME AND ALL OTHERS WHO ARE TAKING IT. IT SOUNDS PROMISING WITH A 95% CURE RATE. So keep us posted about your progress. And if you live well and eat right and stay away from thing that harm the liver.(ACETAMINOPHEN TO MUCH IS BAD FOR THE LIVER) you could live to a ripe old age. Clear one hurtle at a time. Take another round of treatment and try to remain stress free over all the other stuff. Good luck! And remember, YOU are not alone in this fight. There a millions of us. Some do not know they even have it.
Just so you know, no one here judges you by how you got it; doesn't matter. What really matters is you getting rid of it and making sure you lead a long healthy life. I have cirrhosis and still intend to lead a long life by eating a liver-friendly diet, no alcohol whatsoever, no drugs or meds that are harmful to the liver such as acetaminophen/Tylenol. Even if I come to transplant, so be it; I still intend to keep going and do what I have to do to stay alive and healthy. HepC is not a death sentence as some of us have been living with it for 20+ years. The new drugs out have cured the HepC, but some of our livers are wrecked (me) and a lot others. Educate yourself as education is the best weapon and good doctors. You have come to the right place.
Hi, Searchin, welcome to the Forum?
What was your result? Did you clear the virus? Did you relapse? What is your genotype and what wrer the meds you treated with and when?
The genaral answe to your question is that once you clear the hepc, you life span will be the normal one for anyone with your other conditions and, even that can be positively affected with ccorrecting other health issues, or if they can't be corrected, with good health management?
The more specific answer has to do with the questions above, your other medical conditions, if any, and/ or how well you are managing the things about them all that YOU can control, lifestyle, diet, exercise within your capabilities, etc.
