drinking any amount is real bad...no drinking at all..not even a beer...does he have hep c? anyway from what i read less then 1 joint a day shouldn't be too bad.(of course it depends on the pot)..in fact a friend of mine smoked pot all the way through treatment and was svr and till smokes pot...the thing i would worry about is if the pot would cause extra anxiety..when you stop drinking the anxiety can be really bad and pot might not help this... the bad anxiety could last a year..at least a few months...billy

i really felt sorry for you and your dad when i read your previous post but now i'm not so sure how i feel. let me get this right, in your previous post you said your dad is in bad shape with cirrhosis, bleeding from the bowels and the only thing you need to know now is if it is ok to smoke weed with him? if you want your dad to be around for awhile you better start looking into what will prolong his life, i.e. diet, exercise, etc, etc.  or of course you can smoke with him which will probably lead him to want to drink alcohol and then enjoy the short time left with him. Best of luck

Hello daddysgurl,
First I want to tell you I could'nt get to you with that email, so I hope it is o.k. that I reply this way. As far as the smoking goes I don't think that will hurt the liver directly. But I don't think he should do it, because liver disease effects the entire body. He needs to say as healthy as possible. Keep his body strong. Also in the event that he would need a liver transplant in the future, his lungs need to be strong. He would have to pass a breathing test when the doctors evaluate him for transplant, (if a transplant is needed). That was a tough one for me...I was considered in good shape. As far as a joint? No I would'nt do that either! You want his mind, and yours to be clear. You will have many thing to remember with instructions, giving medication on time, what and when he eats, etc.. Those things are VERY important for him to live a haelthy life. He also will not be considered for transplant if he uses any harmful substance. Start now on a good healthy diet, exercise plan (set up by your doc.). If you want any information about foods he should eat, vitamins he can take, etc. I will be glad to help you. Anything I can do for you or your dad will be a privilege. Take care honey,  Kande

Hi,
That is very sad to read. Sorry if I'm making the wrong assumption, but I'm guessing you are looking for alternatives to alcohol for your father to help him stop drinking. So I'm gonna go ahead and guess that he's having a hard time not drinking. If that is the case, pot will get him high but will not replace his alcohol. To be honest, if your dad is stage 4 and still drinking ANY alcohol, he needs an addiction intervention. There are programs for that, and drugs. It's obvious you care deeply about him, so while you're at it, shake off the weed yourself and help him through this. He's going to need you, and as Kande said, you will need to be at your best, both mentally and emotionally. Getting high is not going to make this time any easier for you either.
I'm not tryin to be judgemental here, or mean. It's just, both my parents are gone and you are so lucky to have your father. He is so young. Hang on to him. I miss my dad so much.
David
