1a is much more common, but we have a number of 1b's on this forum. I was 1b with low VL and cleared the virus in 1 week. That only happens with low VL 1b's.
I remember reading the same studies as you, especially one that said 1b's were harder to treat. I worried ,too. Certainly wasn't true in my case and I don't think predictions can be made until you get going for a while.
It's great you're getting started. Keep in touch.
Congratulations on starting tx.
You may experience very mild or no side effects, they keep changing, like the wind.
One goes away then the next one pops up.
I believe quite a few people have been cured. I'm also a 1 and in week 42 of 48.
My symptoms have been a little worse of late, people on Forum very helpful with explanations.
Stay Close & Good luck - Lynne
I've never heard of anyone not being cured with type 1b...(I hope you get a lot of feedback about that). You should talk to your Dr about extending out your treatment longer maybe if your progress isn't rapid enough...I'm on your same same treatment but I have type 2. I don't have too many side effects.I feel feverish and aches in my thighs every other day or so,but nothing tylenol doesn't help (strictly limited to 2 extra strength for a 12 hour peroid). I only do injections in my stomach and it stays red and itchy. I have a strange effect of dry flakey skin on and in my ears. I stay more fatigued than I was already so I also take a shot of procrit once a week for that. Everybody has different SX. I hope yours are very mild.
Lou123, since your doc has never "cured" anyone with genotype 1b, then you'll be his FIRST! Good luck with your treatment.
I'm also a 1b and I'm in week 43 of 48.
It depends on the individual. Most victims can expect the first injections to cause fever, chills, headache and irritation, but that will all pass within a few hours and almost certainly with the second injection. Drink plenty of water.
Other side effects could be (again depending on the individual), anger, lack of appetite, weakness, shortness of breath, lip sores, hair loss, itching, sleep depravation, swollen tongue, and a few more.
Look at the bright side: You're getting a treatment that was not available years ago. Years ago you would have no chance of clearing. Now you do. So, hang in there, bite the bullet and you'll be fine. If I can add a personal warning, stay away from people and things that make you angry and don’t tell anyone of your affliction that you don’t have to. Out of ignorance, people may fear that they too will contract Hep C from you. It’s human nature you see...
