Mouthwash never worked for me.  I got some kind of thrush tablets from my doc that worked, you sucked on them and it worked until they were gone, went through several refills and it was better than nothing!

Ah thank you I am going to try and see if my doctor knows what they are! Last time that I asked him for these GREAT saliva pills he wouldn't give me them and I was so disappointed - salagen or something - he said try the over the counter such and such and it sucked so much and didn't work.

For some reason he can't seem to UNDERSTAND what a curse this mouth problem is!

Sorry you're feeling lousy 3 months post tx.  After tx it seems like most people start feeling better in a few weeks, with a return to near normal in a couple of months.  There are folks here (Eisbein is one) who seem to have the lingering effects that you have mentioned. Perhaps some of those folks will come by and give you some suggestions about how they deal with it. It seem like a number of things are piling up on you and I can see how you feel mushed by it all.  And, a lot of docs just pull out the cookbook and assume that when the shots and the pills are gone then all is fine.  Have you had a pcr since treatment ended? Able to get any exercise, eating well?

I tried Listerine and Scope and salt water and peroxide water and everything you can possibly buy and nothing helped.  The only thing I could do is change eating habits and eat a lot of ice cream and pops. They hurt HORRIBLY I can attest to that.

I'm sorry that anybody else has to go through this - it's the most annoying thing in the world but in order to cure this disease I am willing to deal with it LOL

The only thing that has worked for me is taking a cotton swab and putting peroxide straight onto the big giant one I have - it kills it off by the next day and lasts for a few days but they come back.

We have too many germs thriving in our dry dry mouths I guess or something...GROSS.

It is good, in a very strange way, to hear such similiar problems during treatment.  My doc always made me feel that I was not as bad as I was, and after driving to town one day and being unable to drive home, I realized on my own that she was full of **&^.  Now I am trying to get rehired with the USPS, after working for them 16 yrs and quitting 4 yrs ago, the fatigue was just too much for me even then...and I thought I would have more energy after treatment, now I just wish I felt like I did before treatment!

A huge thank you!  Wish I'd found this place sooner!  By the way, coincidentally, the minute I stopped treatment, my body decided "hey, let's throw in menopause!" (And yes, I am at the right age, 50 this year, but it is really a bizzare and evil coincidence!) Again, my doc said "great, you went through it and didn't even know it during treatment", is she a complete moron?  So, all you women out there, there are no "studies" to link treatment with menopause, just a hell of a coincidence that really sucks!

After being unable to eat for about a year, I am gaining weight,(up to 113) but I can't eat until I get really hungry, about 3 pm. Then I start to eat, and can't stop.  If I try to eat sooner, I get heartburn, nausea, food looks and sounds, and smells, disgusting.  I have tried a variety of supplements, but they really upset my stomach.  The only solution I have found is to eat cheese and crackers all day.  But, I know I am probably dealing with a huge deficiency of a lot of things.  Then around 1 a.m after not sleeping yet another night, I get cravings for chocolate milk!  I did spend a day fixing fence on my place, manage to throw food to the dogs and horse, but then I am spent for 2 days...Seems I can not get a good nights sleep (even the sleep meds never really helped so quit) then I am lazy until about 3 or 4 p.m.  In a terrible cycle and can't stop!  I do manage to go to my job 2 or 3 days a week, for about 4 or 5 hours, but the next day I am completely exhausted, unable to get out of bed...wow, it is so weird to be saying all this "out loud", I spend a lot of time ignoring my pain.  Guess it is because my 13 yr old daughter is gone so I am not trying so hard to act "normal".

You might try eating some plain yogurt (the kind with acidophilus live culture) every day for a couple of week.  I eat it for medicinal purposes.  I don't like the taste all that much, but you get used to it.  I eat 4 tablespoons a day.  I know that yeast infections and thrush are pretty much the same thing and yogurt is good for yeast.  I don't think that anything bad could happen by just eating yogurt.  It's not like a medication, or a pill or a shot and it's worth a try.

I don't think there is a cure for it. I think it is part of the treatment. Best thing I have found is those kids cups of Jello to eat when it is really bothering me. The cold seems to help me not think about it so much. Mine are on the sides of my tongue though. They bother me at times so mush that I will put sore deadener on it before I eat. I hope it improves for him. A sore in your mouth is like a scratch on your eye it will drive you bonkers. Good luck and God bless. Dale
