Before starting treatment I avoided sushi because I heard it is bad for hep c . Any word on if you are undetectable and on triple tx with incivek if its ok to eat. I'm talking raw fish, and I will ask my doctor at next appt, just thought id get a jump start on info.

Don't do it.  You can get Hepatitis A if the fish is contaminated...and Hep A can cause fulminant hepatitis whether you're on treatment or not.

Note this warning concerning seafood and bacterial infection applies ONLY to patients with Stage 4, cirrhosis. Patients with cirrhosis are less able to fight off bacterial and viral infections. This is the same reasoning used to justify preventative immunizations.
I have never heard that this is a problem with patients with less liver disease.

Preventive Care

Keeping patients with cirrhosis healthy is important and can often be achieved if we take measures to prevent other diseases that can affect the liver or threaten the health of patients with cirrhosis. Often, the medical care of these patients is centered on the liver disease and doctors may forget to screen for preventable diseases that affect other organs.

"Immunizations: Patients with hepatitis C infection should be immunized against hepatitis A and hepatitis B infections unless blood tests show that they are already immune. Influenza vaccine (flu shot) should be administered once a year. Penumococcal vaccination (prevents the most common type of bacterial pneumonia) should be given once every 5 years. It has been shown that patients with cirrhosis who develop influenza or pneumococcal pneumonia are much more likely to die than otherwise healthy people who develop these diseases....

Vibrio vulnificus is an organism that lives in salt-water, particularly in the Southeast Atlantic and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. However, infections have been reported from all coastal areas in the United States. This infection can be acquired by eating raw or poorly cooked seafood (raw oysters, sushi) or by going in sea water with open skin sores. In patients with cirrhosis this infection can be lethal. Patients with cirrhosis should not eat raw seafood and should abstain from going in the ocean if open sores are present."

OK. I'm a sushi fan. I even roll my own. BUT I went to strictly vegetables and make my own wasabi sauce. It's become a fun hobby. I haven't had the energy get. But avocado n carrots w. mango is pretty darn good. Most sushi bars have vegan rolls too! So you don't have to miss out entirely. Once you found out how great and inexpensive home made it, it's hard to pay the price eating out. haha! Karen :)

Vaccinations for hep A & B should be administered anyways .. Yes agreed , no raw shellfish , oysters clams etc ....

but raw tuna etc... please show some data that supports that position .

My Doctor said sushi would be fine for me.

I am now undetectable and enzymes in the normal range.

6th week of triple therapy.

Hep A and B vaccinations were on my doctor's orders asap when I got diagnosed.  It's easy.  No reason not to do it.  No worries about sushi from my doctor or me.
