taking 1 Ativan

I'm having Lasik eye surgery on Friday & I might be given an Ativan before the procedure to relax me.  My eye dr. knows I have Hep C & didn't say anything for or against the pill...but I was wondering, one Ativan (I don't know the dosage) in a case like this shouldn't be that much of a stress on my liver, should it?  Has anyone here gone through Lasik either with or without a relaxant?

I'm stupid, read so fast didn't see the lasix part.
why wouldn't they know you out for that? I'd ask for Versed (midazolam-injection) it knocks you out for just long enough for short procedures, you don't remeber a thing, but you clear quickly, and can drive home. Of course, some docs might not offer it, and like any anesthesia it has some risks but it in common use for everything from steroid shots to pulling teeth to animal medicine because of its quick clearance and relative safety.

no problem liver wise one in a while.

But 3 things: ONE is does have dependancy issues, save it for times of real stress, like trouble breathing when intense pain is not managed by your pain meds (latter stages if left untreated)

TWO ativan is not something you should be driving on. Happy but unaware is not the time for propelling lots of metal at high speeds.

THREE, I had a dialated exam last month, it was a breeze. Unless you are having you retina reattached with a laser there is no reason to get anxious. Even the glaucoma test now doesn't use the old puff of air that used to bug me. It was a breeze, so maybe so worry? Compared to the dentist, my eye exam was like disneyland.
hope that helps.

Ativan is Lorazepam... It's something I took the entire time on TX for short term anti-panic, anxiety, mild depression or anger flareups.... I took it once in awhile - and there were no problems whatsoever.

Of course, anyone can have a bad reaction to ANY medicine... but generally no big deal on that stuff.

Works pretty darn well if ya ask me. LOL!

I have been taking Ativan for months on tx. before bed. I still take it. It helps me sleep. Best wishes for your surgery.

I was given Ativan on tx for my anxiety sides.  It probably will be no problem at all, but always good to check with doc. first.  Good Luck with the surgery.

I don't think Ativan is a problem. Of course, always a good idea to run all drugs by your hepatologist or GI.good like with the Lasik.

Thank you...but I'm not having a biopsy anytime soon, just Lasik on my eyes!

I don't think so. My renowned hepatologist prescribed one for me to take just prior to my biopsy. It did very little in the way of alleviating pain, although it did make me really sleepy driving home several hours later. But I know he wouldn't have prescribed it if it was liver dangerous, he's very conservative and pain med stingy. Plus it'll just be one dose, so shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck on the biopsy.
