NONE of the genotypes are untreatable.  The most common genotype in the U.S. is genotype one and it is the least responsive to therapy with Interferon and ribivirin, but still has a 50% cure rate.  This would be a good time for you to begin the screening process for treatment.

I don't know why you think yours is untreatable. Do you have medical insurance and a regular doctor who is taking care of this? You need to look into treatment. You also need to have your liver looked at more closely, perhaps a biopsy.

I wouldn't panic about dying. Many people here have had Hepatitis C for over twenty years. Some are treating now and many have treated successfully over the years - it's not hopeless by any means. You should see a hepatologist (liver specialist) or, if one is not available in your area, then see a gastroenterologist. You will likely undergo tests to determine the condition of your liver and then you and your doctor can discuss your options. I would make an appointment soon.

Unless you are proven to be iron deficient you probably don't want to supplement with iron. Excess iron can be bad for the liver so be careful with supplements and vitamins. Generally doctors are alright with a multivitamin but your particular case may be different. Your PCP should be able to advise you in this regard if he has a basic understanding of Hepatitis C.

Just get to a hepatologist or a good gastroenterologist or and find out what is going on.

Good luck,
Mike

As said above calm down and breathe.  Some of the geno's might have better odds than the others but all are treatable and all can be cured.

Start at ground zero and move forward.  Go to a good doctor who specializes in  hep and see if you need to do treatment even.  Your liver might have minimal damage. You know the doctors say most of us will die with it and not of it.

Good luck.

I had hep c for over 25 years. I treated and am now cured. There are many of us here who have beat this illness. Some even had to have a liver transplant, treated and are cured.

Please educate yourself on hepatitis c and you will see that there is a way out!
