This result sounds like an HCV antibody result; is that so?

This test only checks for exposure at some point in history, and only for the presence of antibodies; not active, RNA virus.

The results indicate a high probability of exposure and possible infection in the past; however more testing will be required. You should follow up with your doctor, and ask him/her to order confirmatory testing, including the ’HCV RNA by PCR’ test. Positive results of the PCR are highly specific for active infection.

Good luck—

Bill
