The tongue ulcers were one of the worst most painful things of treatment - I had them pretty much all during the 72 weeks. They are caused by the interferon so you really can't get rid of them (they keep coming back unfortunately).  Dr. Jacobson told me he'd seen a few patients that had them so bad they had to go off of treatment so - try to get on top of it if you can and maybe you won't get the "ulcers" part and it might be tolerable.

I guess what I'm trying to say is dont' take it lightly or it can get worse.

Good luck.

A good natural way to prevent oral thrush is daily eating of plain acidophilus live-culture yogurt.  I eat from 4 TBLS to 1/2 cup every morning and I've never had any thrush.  I started this many years ago as a preventative for yeast infections and I think it's kept me from thrush.

Yes! Opportunistic infection.Had on treatment more than once.
Treat with Amphotericin lozenges and Nystatin suspension in combination-takes about three days to work, but does work!

Happy New Year. Thrush can sometimes get a temporary neutralization by gargling with Hydrogen Peroxide diluted with water. I had that also under treatment. *****! There are treatments. By the way, don't swallow the Hydrogen Peroxide!

What week are you on?

(sorry;  I forgot).

I'm on month 14 and all i can say is as soon as i get rid of one SX another seems to pop up, or, like in the most recent case, reemerge.

SOB (shortness of breath) is kicking my butt.

I've had the mouth cracks for 14 months but so far no dental/oral problems other than that.

And, no, you're not imagining this sh!t.  :(

I had thrush/mouth sores really bad around week 25 (now at 41!). I had a Rx for clotrimazole lozenges which did the trick. I still use them periodically when I get mouth sores. The OTC stuff just didn't work. I use biotene toothpaste and mouthwash (really helps) and also a solution of 2 tsp salt and baking soda in 1 qt of water. Rinse mouth 4-5 times per day. Drink lots of water!!

This helped me with my mouth sores:

1. Use toothpaste with baking soda and peroxide after each meal. Use it on the tongue as well as on teeth and gums.
2. Avoid nuts or any food with nuts. Good luck, Jeff.

thanks for your responses, good to know, yet at the same time, sucks that I seem to be developing all these extraordinary Sx from Tx.
Anyone have thrush--or have it while on Tx. It is xmas day and really don't want to go to emergency- is it something that requires meds? or more oral hygiene.  guess i could call my nurse, yet- again, it is xmas day.

from:
www.dental-source.com

"Hepatitis C patients are easily prone to mouth ulcers and thrush. Thrush (candidiasis) is an overgrowth of a yeast (fungus) called "candida." In the mouth, thrush appears to be creamy white patches or small red spots on the tongue, roof of the mouth (also called the hard palate), gums or throat. Crusting on the corners of the mouth is also one of the symptoms of thrush."

i've read about lots of people on tx getting all kinds of mouth problems.  In my case, it's been cracking at the corners of the lips for the past 14 months.

But, as i'm rereading the article, i wonder if that's what I've had?  (crusting at corners of the mouth).  I've been using ertazco and it helps keep it under control but that's for external use, only.
