to get tested or not

i recently shared a nose straw(dollar bill) to snort coke with some1 who i think has hep c. im not sure but i kno he has shared needles and has recently complained of pains in his upper  body.
no blood on the bill, but still im very nervous. i want to get tested but then again maby i dont want to know.    why shouldnt i just wait 15 years so i can hav a nornal life through my days of youth and then get tested. if i do have it and find out now it will be very difficult to ever find a wife wont it? i dont care about dying or suffering, what i am afraid of  is telling my parents or living my life alone.  but then again, im not on my own yet mayby its better to get tested now so that im still under my parents insurance? please help

LOL, I love your screen name!  We were all just like you at some point in our lives.  Please go get tested, it will put your mind at ease.  Hepatitis C is something that is curable for a lot of people.  Many people had this disease for years and never infected a family member.  It is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, at least in heterosexual monogamous relationships.  You should use protection for other obvious reasons though.  Blood spots can be microscopic and not visible to the human eye, so just because you didn't see blood doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Well ....
I wish someone would have told me what i am about to tell you when i was young. Do not use any drugs ! Your life will be better without . trust me on this..... You should get tested as soon as possible. You owe it to yourself to know. You will go crazy thinking about it. I would suggest getting tested for std's also just to play it safe. You are young and mistakes will happen in your life . Just try to learn from them and better yourself. I hope the best for you

Well, at least you're honest (I refer to your screen name).  Believe me, many of us were young and dumb -- I was.  First of all, it may be possible that you have made a correct assessment of your friend's condition.  Even so, chances of you contacting hep C are remote.  If the incident was pretty recent, your body hasn't even had time to make the antibodies yet so a standard hep C screening test won't show positive yet.  I think it takes 60 days or so.  If I were you I would get tested in a couple of months.  If however, you start having any signs of compromised liver - yellow eyes, extreme tiredness, soreness in the URQ (upper right quatrant) take heed immediately and tell your health care provider what you think.

Hepatitis C isn't a death sentence but I would not recommend waiting 15 years to have a normal life (15 years isn't near enough anyway). So just take it easy.  No sense in telling your parents yet, but do get tested.

Hi, I am sorry you are having to go through this. But I think you should go get tested to ease your mind. I wish I had known more and got tested sooner. I waited too long and I got cirhosis of the liver now. You can still have a normal life and keep an eye on the problem IF you have it. You can treat the hep c. But the not knowing would drive me nuts. It is a very personal decision. This is just my opinion. Good luck.

Please get tested the sooner you know the better. It is almost unheard of to transmit HepC sexually. My spouse has has it for a very long long time. I dont have it and not afraid that I will get it. If you have HEPC, it is easier to treat in the begaining. You may not even have it put your mind at ease get tested.

youngandum, be proud of yourself for even looking into this...most don't or are afraid to.

The HCV test is simple and easy.
There's even one to order online if you're afraid about going to a Dcotor or clinic. http://www.homeaccess.com/02/02/

Get Tested. But, if you think you may have been exposed recently, then I would suggest waiting about 3 months to get tested.  During this time, do not, do not do any more drugs.

Is there any trials in the mid-west?   Probably not as my city is not big like Dallas or St.Louis.

Most likely that is how I got this disease but I did a LOT with MANY people for a LONG TIME and my nasal passages where absolutely destroyed and so were theirs.   I wouldn't worry if it was just a once in a moon thing - my nose was FRIED and there was plenty of room to get any microdroplet into it.

If it makes you feel better though, have a test to be sure and then don't make the same mistake again.

People DO get it that way - I am living proof.

I believe I got it snorting  too. There is a chance (a good one) that I got it in the hospital as I was deathly ill right afterwards with it, but who knows.

If you continue to snort drugs, make sure you use your own straw or bill. BTW, a lot of the money in this country is COVERED with cocaine and is SO Dirty...I would NOT USE BILLS.

Get a simple blood test and take safety precautions if you DO continue to use drugs. At least you can hope to stay safe from these viruses. I am not going to lecture you on using drugs. You have to decide yourself. There are safer ways to do them though. Janis has some info about this.

why is everyone telling this kid to get tested? For what? I thought we all got hep c from blood exchange. Is it because his story involves drugs, like we all didn't use them, I know that's why I am here. Come on would you tell the kid to get tested if he kissed someone with hep C? I think not.

Funny how guilt and fear works even here.

you can get hepC VERY EASILY from sharing drug straws - THAT is why we said get tested.  Just because you can't SEE blood does NOT mean it's not there - and we are NOT talking saliva here.

You should know this information to think that it's NOT possible is just plain ignorance.  If it gives peace of mind and obviously this kid is worried about it then get a test.

If his friend uses IVDU it's MORE than possible.  I got it that way in fact and a few others in here also think that is how they got it.

I would love to see the statistics of people that aquired hep c from sharing a straw. sorry I have a hard time with that one. Does that mean I am getting AIDS from sitting on a toliet seat as well? I never ment to imply that everyone here got Hep C from drug use, but I bet a lot of us did, not that there is anything right or wrong with either. Getting Hep C sucks period and even us drug users didn't set out to get Hep C just like those of you who got from a hospital visit or tattoo or what ever didn't set out to get it.

I just know that there is a lot of miss information out there and we should not try to add to it and we certianly should not add to the hysteria.
