tooth infection..extraction or root canal?

After just 5 days finished antibiotic for 2nd UTI in just 3 month apart.... now starting to have tooth infection... The dentist perscribed Amoxicillin (sp?) for now and suggested either extraction or root canal.  Has anyone have done tooth extraction or root canal while on treatment? Is it very bad idea?  I am at week 17/48, undetected at week 4. I am on procrit, and my WBC/ANC is around 1.9/900.  Any suggestion is appriciated.

Root canal takes longer, pull the tooth 1/2 hour, all depends how important your teeth are, during treatment is up to you

I've had a ton of root canals and they NEVER last for me the tooth always ends up needing to come out later anyway.  A a matter of fact one I got a few months ago...the entire filling fell out the other night.

Interferon eats our teeth worse than soda...all the regular cavities I had turned to root canals while on tx. I had a lot of dental work done it was no big deal just the usual horror of the dentist.

Worry, if you are having infection, it sounds like you need to get it done and I would definitely call my dr and ask him what he thought since you are on tx.  I chose to not get much done at dentist the year I was on tx except regular teeth cleaning just due to overall not feeling great.  However I didn't have anything like you are talking about that needed immediate attention.  Good Luck!

I read somewhere a while ago that root canal/extraction might reinfect the virus, it is really worried my a lot.  I tried to take antibiotic to buy some times untill the time come.  Thanks for the responses.

i just had abcess (abscess) and they gave me antibodics and thats all i done and it doesnt hurt anymore, iam buying time to i get over tx if it dont reinfect... i think interferon cause my abcess (abscess).. never had any problems till i started tx..
