treatment options

Are there circumstances where one tests positive with the chronic virus and the doctor does not reccommend treatment? ... just watches its levels in blood?   Is interferon used all the time?

This looks like quiet a debate here about Matt's juicing fruits and veggies, and I can certainly see the wisdom behind the element of not confusing others with using the term "cure" as anyone considering the standard Tx. might be swayed to try other methods for an easier go of it, and it's not wise to have someones wrong decisions based over what worked for some.  It is a good policy I believe to go for the best possible treatment when your life is at stake.
Having said this, Matt is right on spot, it does not matter if one is taking medications or not, nor treatments or not, the very great benifits of juicing beet juice, carrot juice etc. are wonderful liver "foods", they are highly recommended by hospital dietary professional to assist one especially with harsh treatments, simply because drug interventions works to destroy ones digestive n-zimes, [which drinking the live-n-zimes is a sure way to replace them, whereas cooked foods kills the live n-zimes in veggies.  juicing "Fruits" is for anyone who is ill, not only with HCV,  WHY? Because drinking the fruit juices is less burdensome on the entire digestive system and takes far less "energy" to process such juices.  When a person is very ill with weakened systems, the less "energy" that is taken to process foods, the better!  This is also attributed to helping to maintain nutrition needs, when a weakened system can not assimulate the whole foods completely.  It is "recommended" by the cancer research center in Billings, Montana, [who also has many HCV patients, I know because I have traveled there for evaluations], to take at least 50% of food intake by juicing veggies and non-acid based fruits, with "Wheatgrass" the first on there list of juices!!   By the way, "Wheatgrass juice is also highly recommended by the John Hopkins Research Center and this info. I obtained online..[easy to look it up]
As for herbs, I'm sure most everyone has heard of Milk Thistle, but did you know that this "herb" is also recommended for people taking interferon/Tx too?
It was mentioned that you can NOT CURE hepc with herbs, and I tend to agree with this, but there are formula's of herbs that do in fact stop the progression and further damage of the disease. But lets face it, who wants to take 30 capsules 3 times a day for the rest of their lives?
I am most curious about this new protease inhibitors might be? Anyone know the name of it yet?   I think that's great news!!
There are several protease inhibitors which has been proven with lab.and research studies to stop the replication of the hepc parasites, [virus] I take one of these myself everyday. [It's also known to be a powerful anti-snakebite venom known as Jer'gon Sacha from the South American jungles.  I do know that many of our current prescription drugs found there chemical designs based on the chemical structures found in herbs, once identified, they were easily simulated in our modern day labs.
I just thought I'd fill in a few pieces of information here to help others understand that 1.~ Standard treatment Tx. is the number one route to go to fight this nasty bug.. but in the case that you've tried and tried again, then there is at least some help with alternative methods, as Matt suggested.

IF something as easy as juicing up some fruits and vegetables really cured HepC we all would have been juicing away like mad rather than taking harsh medications.  But as they have been PROVEN to cure the disease and juice sure has not (and matt I think we've asking you 10000 times to please submit some proof that this worked if you want to say it does).

Believe me if blending up milkshakes worked............I would have been one happy camper.

Let the buyer beware if it sounds too good to be true - it IS!

May-be you should include this? like you have on your blog?  it is important
for people to seek out their doctor's opinion and advise.

This information is not entirely complete... as there are no professional medical studies proving it to be able to heal anyone of Hepatitis-C. I could only hope that this message will encourage study of the methods below to fight Hepatitis-C... instead of being deleted and cast aside... Everyone should seek their Doctor's advice before juicing Vegetables and Fruit. It is important to seek professional help before considering juicing Vegetables and Fruit because certain medications can react with Vegetables and Fruit. My Father was using Tylenol for pain of the bleeding ulcers and Ibuprofen(anti-inflammatory) occasionally for headaches. My Mother wasn't on any medications. Some diseases, illnesses may also require limited consumption of specific Fruits and Vegetables as well, so again, it is important to seek the advise of your doctor.

right now most insurance companies are denying treatment to stage 1 and 2 patients according to my doc.

Partly this is because the new drugs on the horzon have such a better rate of cure, partly because disease progression is usually slow, most docs are in agreement with this thinking...not all are.

If you have certain diseases already, docs may also wait, hoping you will either get some weight off, or like if you have a heart condition, they might want to wait for the Pi's even if you were stage 3/4 just because at most you'd only get one shot at treatment, and they want that to work.

In some instance, with some insurances, and in some countries they deny treatment just because it's expensive, but you can fight that....your doctor would have to go to bat for you in that case...(and maybe your lawyer.)
I don't think it's fair to deny any stage treatment, since success is better in early stages, but I do see the reasoning on both sides. If you are state side you probably have type 1 a or 1 b....type 1 is very hard to treat, current drugs work only 50% of time, new drugs coming work 75 to 93% of the time in latest trials...worth the wait IMHO.

"Cures based on alternative methods, while they sound wonderful, do not work as stated."

How do you know?

Confused; be very wary of information gleaned from posters such as the one directly above. Cures based on alternative methods, while they sound wonderful, do not work as stated. Let the information and discussion in here drive questions for your qualified medical doctor.

Yes; Newleaf offers good advice; treatment with interferon and ribavirin are not always in the patient’s best interest; your doctor can help you assess your situation, and will guide you appropriately.

Yes, if you're really healthy already and your Liver looks fine and you have absolutely no symptoms from Hep-C then there is no rush to treat. My Mom had a biopsy and everything looked fine except she had the Hep-C virus. My parents were both healthy when they found out they had the virus and their doctor did not recommend immediate treatment but left the option open of course. My parents are fine now though since I healed them using natural interferons, protease inhibitors, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc., from Vegetables, Fruit and Herbs.

Interferon in combination with ribivirin is the current standard of care (SOC) for HCV treatment.  Research goals are to find a different treatment than interferon but that is probably many years away.  If patient tested positive to antibodies for HCV but a PCR test to detect RNA of the virus in the blood comes back negative, no treatment is necessary.

If the virus does actually exist (not just antibodies from a prior exposure) using PCR tests to detect levels of HCV RNA in the blood would be useless, since the amount of live virus in the blood is not an indicator of the damage done on the liver.  The potential for liver damage is the purpose for treating the virus.

Perhaps your doctor has decided to just monitor you because your bloodwork results (looking for things like high bilirubin, slow clotting time, low platelets and high liver enzyme levels) do not contain the major indicators of severe damage and he'd like to wait until the new protease inhibitors are approved by the FDA next year.  When a protease inhibitor is added to SOC the patient's odds for curing the disease go up considerably and a good doctor wants the patient to have the best possible chance of curing and does not want to cause the patient any more suffering than necessary.
