Seriously, look at the trial results and the likelyness of getting approved without jumping through hoops and you'll see that S/O pales in comparison to Harvoni for GT 1a's. They shouldn't even be in the same conversation.
thanks for your suggestions
S/O for geno 1a's can be tricky. About 20% of geno 1a patients will have a gene that won't let them respond to Olysio. Ask for the test if you are considering Olysio.
Here is a link to harvoni, you will have to copy and paste to your address bar

"Why not go on S/O if you are 1a?"
Good luck getting an insurance co to approve 12 weeks of S/O, a combo that is off label, when harvoni is cheaper for 12 weeks and FDA approved
just sayin
Why not go on S/O if you are 1a?
I am gt 1a. Do you have experience with this drug? I am researching right now. Thank for your suggestions.
What gt are you? If you're 1a why don't you go on Harvoni?
Also, depending on where you live and your insurance company, since you are stage 1, it is possible that you could be denied treatment. Us advocates are fighting hard to change these rules but it is an uphill battle. If you have an opportunity for a clinical trial with Abbvie, Gilead or Bristol Myers Squibb, really think hard about it.
Having had cirrhosis since 1991, and having the virus since 1966, and clearing in 2013, I can honestly say that I am surprised at the level of relief, both physical and emotional, that I feel. It has also been reported that for people who are not treatment naive, the side effects are nil to minimum, including ribavirin. Don't pass up a phase 3 trial from fear. Those of us who have been waiting a long time for this kind of treatment are just thrilled with the results, the duration and ease of treatment compared to a few short years ago.
Thank you for your response. I really appreciate your answers.
The trial is level 3.
I've always considered myself "healthy" and the thought to making myself sick is hard to comprehend.
I am not only worried about the side effects during the trial but more so after I am done with it. Ribovirin stays in your body for 6 month after the last dose and according to the studies the drugs (ABI 450..) work without Ribovirin too.
I know I may sound like a weenie but I am so afraid to making the wrong decision by not waiting and harming my body more than helping.
Believe me I REALLY want to get rid of "my virus".
If you compare the before and after how do you feel now?
Hi there, welcome! Each person is different so has to weight the risks vs benefits. I have heard many different opinions on here. Some say if one has little damage they can afford to wait.
On the other hand I have heard it is much easier to treat and rid yourself of the virus before it causes more damage. My doctor told me that it would be much harder for me to treat since I was going in to cirrhosis. He was right, it was difficult.
I treated and am now cured using Peg, Riba and Incivek.
The newer tx's are much shorter duration and supposed to be easier so it would seem now is a good time to treat.
What level is the trial you would be doing? If a level 3 I would jump at the chance. There was someone on here who's husband treated with the Abbie and she said the tx was much easier for him, he did get to SVR
Ultimately, you have to trust that your doctor is doing what he feels is best for you at this time.
Take Care, Dee
Those were the drugs I took in the Abbvie Turquoise Trial. I am geno 1a, and have had cirrhosis since my first biopsy in 1991. I treated with interferon, Infergen, Peg, Riba and thymosin (not FDA approved) many times, and never had any response at all. Ribavirin at its worst, dropped my hemoglobin to 7. I can honestly tell you that I cleared on the Abbvie trial within 4 weeks and have had an SVR since July 2013. Ribavirin needs interferon to do its dirty work. I had less than a 1 point drop in my hemoglobin on ribavirin with the Abbvie drugs. If you have a chance to take the Abbvie drugs, I would say DO IT!!!
Here are the SVR 12 results from Sapphire I and II.....
