update...

We went back to the dr. yesterday to just have the other banding procedure done. Thankfully this time they only put 4 bands it, he says the 7 he put in before did work (Thank God). He doesn't expect to have to do anymore banding. We go back next tuesday to actually discuss our tx options with the dr. Last we were told by the P.A. that he would have to go back on interferon alongside the new drug for atleast a year. What I don't understand is when I ask on here what the best tx option for someone with stage 4 cirrhosis is most say the new Soba/Riba but why won't our dr let us try that without the interferon if thats the best option? I'm very depressed as I have watched my boyfriend suffer from bad news after bad news. He's very down right now and says he will refuse the interferon tx and just choose to die. Someone please help, I'm at the end of my rope and Im not sure what to do....right now his life seems hopeless...

"why won't our dr let us try that without the interferon"

The only treatment that will be available without peg-interferon will be Gilead's Sofosbuvir and Ribavirin for genotypes 2 and 3 ONLY. Gilead's treatment for genotype 1 is only for treatment-naive patients (those that never have treated their hep C) and includes peg-interferon and ribavirin.

All other projected new HCV treatments for 2014 for genotype 1 will include peg-interferon and ribavirin.
Janssen's Simprevir
Boehringer Ingelheim's Faldaprevir
BMS daclatasvir + Asunaprevir

Non peg-interferon treatments are not expected to be available until 2015.

Good luck!

Thank you for your uplifting words. I'm praying that our doctor will allow us to try the new medication without interferon. Life just seems so unfair at times.

Congrats on getting all the banding done, as for what the PA said, wait until you see the doctor. Retreating with interferon for 48 weeks was the way to go in the past, unless I am missing something here with new treatment options hopefully just a few months away one would think they would wait, genotype 2 even with cirrhosis has very good odds and less treatment times............. Best to you.
