PAXIL is horrible for weight. I weighed 103 lbs, I couldn't gain a pound if my life depended on it. Then I took paxil and I gained 64 lbs in 6 months. And I have been struggling to get it off for 5 years. It completely changes your metabolism even years after it. I my body is forever changed now that I have taken that. I worked out witha personal trained 6 days a week on a high protien high fiber 1200 calorie diet for 8 months and could only loose 6 lbs of it. So be VERY VERY careful.
Paxil is Number One in the fattening department out of all AD's known to man. My sister-in-law gained 50 lbs. on the stuff in about 6 months, but she so loves the mental effects of the drug that she accepts the obesity. I wouldn't be able to stand it, myself, but she's married and I'm not, so... (In other words, my brother still loves her, even with her love handles).
ANY AD can cause weight gain is my understanding. Some people just don't lose gobs of weight during treatment. You have to remember...side effects change ALL throughout treatment and while you are fine today you might be so slammed with anemia (for example) in two weeks you don't have the strength to eat.
Unfortunately my thyroid was killed off by the interferon = first it went hyper and i lost so MUCH weight I looked like a skeleton, quite literally. Then my thyroid went hypo and now I couldn't lose a pound if I had to. So I gainned back the 20 I couldn't afford to lose and plus ten. It's horrible.
I'm on Paxill but I don't think that really has much to do with it.
Good luck.
i am currently taken effexor any questions just ask
