""ANA = antinuclear antibodies test..
ASMA =antismooth muscle antibodies test..
these are 2 different tests

The measurements aid in the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) and autoimmune connective tissue diseases (diseases resulting from antibodies produced against the body`s own tissues).

ANA   and ASMA   are 2 different autoimmune serological markers both help Dx autoimmune disease, such as Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic sclerosis:(connective tissue diseases). Multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and Gullian-Barre syndromes :(neuromuscular diseases) ; Hashimoto

I am just trying to find a place to share what is happening to my body mind and spirit, get some support, give some back, share experiences that are hard to understand, go through, and sometimes are frustrating.  Mostly, I am tired of just living my life from one shot to the next and felt it was time for me to reach out and get the support of those also going through this.  Maybe it was an attempt to "normalize" this experience, when it doesn't seem normal to be taking six pills a day and a shot of poisen once a week.  Being with others who sound like they have the same side effects as I do, also makes me feel easier about what's happening to me, like I'm not alone.  Isn't that the purpose of this site?

(quote from above):

"<i>I,too, am now a patient, albiet one who has volunteered for a few years for individuals affected by HIV and HCV.</i>"

(quote from another post):

"<i>I am not the Doc Cindee briefed you about, but my specialty is HCV/HIV.</i>"

(and quote from another post):

"<i>"I come from a psychiatric background...</i>"

Does volunteering "for a few years" somehow turn someone's specialty into HCV/HIV? Does a backround in psychiatry give someone a specialty in HCV/HIV? Call me Mr. Skepticism, but I happen to think not.

I'm finding outside that I get queasy alot at food cooking and about the only thing that I could eat all day is fruit.  However I do cook every night and once its cooked and I sit down,,,I then eat.  Its almost like we were discussing other day about mornings and how you sometimes feel achy and takes you along time to get moving.  Once you get up and get going,,,you are fine  Same thing with food for me!

This one made me chuckle as I too couldn't stand look taste feel smell of red meat while on tx. and I am from Mont. where we grew up on beef spuds and gravy. I think my good ole Irish mother was horribly scandalized. The one thing that I craved during and since tx. was/is mandarin oranges. I know it's hard to avoid red meat esp. this time of year, but you can always tell yourself ice-cream is good, I can do ice-cream.       Joni

While I was on tx. Red meat, the smell, even just the though of it made want to puke. I used to drink coke etc. couldn't stomach that. It was WAY to SWEET !!! I ate alot of oatmeal, macaroni, greens beans and alittle chicken. Bunches of water...
about 1/3rd thru tx. I had to have my gall bladder removed.

I don't recall who asked why I go by Dr...but a psychiatrist IS a doctor, we actually go through medical school and then specialize. So I have a PhD. in psychiatry and can presrcibe medication.  But, no, I am NOT a hepatologist and do not present myself as such.  I,too, am now a patient, albiet one who has volunteered for a few years for individuals affected by HIV and HCV.  Now I am the patient, too.

Has anyone had this particular problem???
Although I do not have a gallbladder, the liver also processes fats, and until recently, I have had no problem.  Since being on treatment, I cannot even stand the smell of anything fatty!  My stomache gets upset at the least bit of fat...cheese, milk, butter, meats, especially the smell of cooking hamburger, and we all know, this being BBQ season, it is hard to avoid.  I get nausea and can't eat for the rest of the day.  I have swiched to low or non fat things, from milk to soy, from meat to veggies, turkey, chicken...but even that doesn't help.  I can eat, if someone else cooks it.  Am I just old or is this a side effect someone else has had?

There is concern that the ribavirin can potentially cause bone loss and in very rare cases bone necrosis (e.g. - some of the SARS patients in Asia who were treated with extremely high doses of riba experienced bone death. But they were given much more riba than Hep C patients get).

There is also some concern that Hep C itself can be a contributing factor to bone loss. Though, as with so many things related to Hep C, there seems to be precious little study data out there yet to confirm or deny these issues.

"that he does a bone density first
that he does an initial cardiac stress test
that he orders an eye examine by a eye DOCTOR
that he orders the initial standard psych eval"
Well, none of these were "standard" in my case. I got the cardiac after anemia did its number, and the eye when redness called for it, did no psych and I got a script now for bone density to rule out Osteopenia, that can be caused by interferon.
On the other hand...I rather get the monthly "mini mental" as it can gauge the condition better than one isolated psych visit, so my practice has an electronic gadget to do at every visit.
Every practice seems to have their own protocol, so i guess the only standard is regular bloodwork for all...interesting.

Lou, the website for the Mass. Med Board is massmedboard.org.  You should be able to get any info you need from there, re: lawsuits, doc's education, experience, etc.

Wow! Thanks for the info.

Chevy, yes that is the same doctor. I will check them all out. And yes I am not above going to ANY length to check him. And as I have stated a doctor to me is simply another consultant to advise, so he should be checked out thoroughly. (Are we to tough?)

Hey, great questions. I think what I will do before I go next Thursday Aug 12 is to post my questions and ask you guys to review them. Once we all go through them and correct them and add and/or eliminate some we could use it as a template of

Hi, I want to investigate my hep c doctor. Is there a site to find out about complaints, lawsuits and stuff? I heard there was. His name is Dr. Georger Abraham at the Worcestor medical center in Mass.

The department of health has  a section in their website to check the dr's complains, credentials, etc. State DOH.
There might me others where you have to pay a fee.

Hi Chevygal,

Can you tell me why you mentioned a bone density test first?  Do you know of any information that tx or hep c causes problems with the bones?

Thanks,
TS

Hey.. you can do a web search.. for stuff like that..and get specific answers to specific questions, and probably find some pix to see what you want to..but I will try to help some.. OK?
FIRST:::WHERE is the blood clot?    are you asking in general??  a blood clot is basically a clump of thick sticky dark red blood cells.  like in an open wound. or when a cut stops bleeding...  BUT IF you are asking about a clot.. like in the leg..( the other day you said something about your leg)...  a clot in your leg would cause your leg to be reddened, and swollen and hot,,it is called "phlebitis".and is dangerous!!.. and if you extend your leg straight out and someone pushes your toes towards your knees, you would have PAIN, in the calf or back of the knee..usually.. This is called the "Homan's Sign"   test.   IF you think you have a clot.. or are having PAIN, swelling, or hot areas in your leg, It is very dangerous!!   you should CALL your doctor immediately.. or go to the Emergency Room.  Please don't take chances..  It is better to be safe than sorry..
OK.NEXT.... the "Antismooth Muscles Antibodies test" tests to see if you have built up antibodies against
SMOOTH muscles tissue  (non-striated, involuntary muscles.).
>> "" Smooth muscle is found in the walls of all the hollow organs of the body (except the heart). Its contraction reduces the size of these structures. Thus it
regulates the flow of blood in the arteries
moves your breakfast along through your gastrointestinal tract
expels urine from your urinary bladder
sends babies out into the world from the uterus
regulates the flow of air through the lungs
The contraction of smooth muscle is generally not under voluntary control""<<
They use this test to look for autoimmune connective tissue diseases Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic hepatitis..(autoimmune hepatitis)
If the doc ordered this test.. it is because he is trying to find out what is wrong.. You said that all your tests for Hep A,B, & C.. came back negative.. you may have "autoimmune hepatitis"..???.  All the symptoms you told us about the other night sounded like hepatitis..    Sounds as though he is trying hard to help you..
do some searches on : antismooth muscle, smooth muscles, and autoimmune diseases.. maybe this  will help you know what is going on.. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor QUESTIONS!.
Take care and don't take chances with your health.. .. wish you the best...C
