That's great for you Snook, I'm glad it's helping you and youre nearing the finish line. Just wanted to say that I'm a firm believer in whey protein as well. I get some from Trader Joe's  and it's Designer Whey protein and it's only 10 bucks. Has all of the b's in it, minerals, amino acids, etc. I don't take much of it myself, but what I do take helps me. I fully intend on taking it when I treat so as not to lose too much weight.

I haven't heard anything bad about whey protein, but anytime you significantly change your diet/exercise program and/or add supplements/drugs, it's always a good idea to have your liver enzymes checked more often.

On a personal and very unscientific note, I've found my liver enzymes lower (sometimes normal) on a very low fat/hihg carbo diet like Pritikin. The enzymes seemed highest on a higher protein diet like the Zone. This may have been caused by the higher excerise levels while on the Zone diet but I think it had to do with the higher per cent of protein.

Unless you're cirrhotic,  high protein intake is not a problem.  In fact,  keeping protein on the high side can assist with tissue repair and bolster an immune system dealing with a chronic viral infection.   Heavy fat  intake is to be avoided, however, and I wonder if that was the problem for Jim with the Zone Diet experiment.   To answer your question, however, whey protein is great stuff for people with HCV,  especially because of the high lactoferrin content.

Definitely check out  Hep C Choices, which has an excellent  chapter on nutrition for Hep-C authored by Lark Lands, Ph.D., an early AIDS and HCV researcher.   Available for download at:

However, however, however....  sorry, y'all.  I truly look forward to my vision returning.  Can't read my own posts!

I was told that whey protein is great for us. I have been taking in about 45 grams a day in the morning mixed in with a bannana and fresh strawberries in a shake. Since I started upping my protein intake, the weightloss stopped, and I have had more energy and less sx's than any other time during my tx.
Week 43, only 5 more to go!!

The Protien that I make my smoothies has a high amount of cholesterol in it... is that  abad thing? The ingredients are things like fish and eggs as well as whey. It says 65% of the cholesterol I should get in aday (35 mg if i remember right) is that Ldl or Hdl cholesterol???
