wild-type

by pln, Oct 30, 2006 12:00AM
In these two patients, viral sequencing analyses at week 24 showed predominantly wild-type virus, with a minority population of R155K variants also detected.

Thanks

wild-type is the virus we all carry, without mutation.

Thanks.  Without mutation, seems like it would be easy to kill without mutating? I just did shot 14, unblinded in 6 more weeks.

Yes, if it were to come back, most of it would come back as wild-type. In fact, I think it all ended up returning to wild-type. If you needed to re-treat, that would be desirable type. I would note that even the mutants have been shown to be less-fit. I bring that up, because that is another phrase you hear often also.
Less-fit means not as virulent. In prior viral kinetic sequencing, the mutants were less-fit, and it was said that they did not have good replicative fitness. In other words, they weren't their normal strength, they were weak.

Hopefully none of this will be of concern to you.

Its the type that you have been eradicating from your body for the last 13 weeks. UND means no wild AND no mutant population.
In six more weeks, you will know just how quickly you knocked 'em down. They are NOT getting up again :-)

Yep, #15 on Monday. Only 5 or 6 to go before unblinding for both of us.

My Sx have reduced considerably. The rash/itch is cleared thanks to a dermo who actually knows HCV and its Tx, sleep is close to normal again. Aside from being more of a SOB than normal, all is well. HGB is holding around 10, which has its own little limitations. Better those than another set of Sx from Procrit - don't need that!
