Very interesting and would like to know more (selfishly) what the % breakdown of Geno 1a and 1b are in NA? I'm 1B and likely got it the same as you around the same time as you and am the same age as you. (the sins of our youth) I, like you, didn't know that there were so many different genotypes out there. I do know that it's been around a lot longer than most have realized. In the 50's it was predominately referred to as 'alcoholic hepititus' due to being found in so many alcoholics and since then due to HIV attention HCV is now finally getting some needed attention and way over due I might add. This is something that could have been nearer a cure by now but some viruses get more attention for whatever reason than others but it's sad that HCV didn't and could have saved a lot of lives had it been so. But I digress...

You've experience 35.75 cycles of treatment since then but we just didn't know enough.:>) My first round was megadoses of interferon only in mid 90's the second was the combination intra/ribo and cleared at 28 weeks and relapsed 3 months out after completeing the 48.(probably would have SVR'ed if had gone for 72) This time in Prove 3 study and only hoping that I'm getting the real stuff vs. the placebo. I find that I go back and forth thinking I'm sure I have the real deal and then wondering if I do. But the hope is ARMs B or D but know that even if A then I will get the real stuff at some point just would like to get it sooner rather than later.

Welcome to the fray.  Sounds like you are getting yourself armed with information and knowledge, which is almost as important as the meds as you get ready to start treatment. Good luck as you Go4ward.

i didn't reach und 'til week 16 - 18 so i'm on week 26 of the 72 week plan.

tx effects everyone differently but FWIW, it's not been easy for me.

Koop's web site used to have some good info. on genotypes:www.epidemic.org ( or maybe its .net or .com)
     I found your comment about Vietnam Vets interesting. I know many of them have HCV. But they are mostly within the 4 genotypes found in N.America. Which points to their contacting HCV from the airgun innoculations given in boot camp not to being in Asia.
      There is a man who uses this forum and lives in Indonesia who has genotype 10.
I was diagnosed in Bangkok and was told they see 6 genotypes there.

'With in the range of standard side-effects there is quite a variety of degree of tx success and sx impact'.  Truer words were never spoken.  You don't know how the stuff will affect you. As for me, my approach is that until stuff is bad - it's good.  The 'ole noodle, logic and optimism play large parts in this game.
