I've known that I had HCV for 22 years. My husband and daughter have been tested and do not have it. The only precaution that we have taken is if I get cut and I'm bleeding I get a little hysterical to make sure nobody gets infected. Neither one can donate blood either. Other than that, life goes on as usual.
I had it for 25 years and even had two children during that time. Whether or not I got it originally from my husband is a question I will never know the answer to but most people practice safeR sex (no sex during a woman's cycle, no anal sex things like that) and it really cuts your chances to about zero if you do that.
when I was diagnosed in Dec 06, my husband went and was tested; he was negative. We've been married 26 years. Doctor said "99.999999% chances of nothing to worry about".
I am so tired of the fear that this disease has caused for myself and family. While we are not ignorant to the fact of certain matters, but (for me) I've now decided to embrace life. Good Luck to you.
I was tested today just for peice of mind. My dr. thought it wasn't necessary but I told him I wanted to know for sure. I do know a few people whos husbands have it but not the wife or the children. But, if ya'll are worried she should get tested.
Sexual transmission is rare but is more common male to female than female to male.
How long have you been married? If it's for a really long time and she hasn't gotten it by now the odds are she won't. Just be careful when you're bleeding around her and if she has an open sore.
from what I read ther is only 3-5% chance of sexually getting it.
To put her mind at ease she sould get tested.
