Allergy Relief?

Allergy Relief?

What do those of you who have allergies or allergic sinusitis take for relief? I have a horrible headache and drainage and am not sure what's safe to take.

Make sure you are drinking enough water. I use the herb stinging nettle for allergies (works great) or bioAllers for outdoor allergies. It's a homeopathic remedy. If they are really bad I use an OTC loratadine. But I only take one because I have to drive my car.

I'm allergic to weeds and/or grasses. So I had it last month and it is coming back soon.

Wyntre has been dealing with allergy problems for years from what I read, she may be able to advise you. I flagged her.

That stinging nettle works the best. If you try bioAllers take 2 per dose. You get them both at the health food store. Allergies run in my family. Fortunately, mine are not really bad. Once I start sneezing I know the weeds are high now. Allergies seem to be worse this year due to a dry Jan. and wet Feb.

You might start with OTC "Simply Saline". Besides using as directed, let it run down your throat a little and then cough it up to clear throat as well. You might also see an ENT who probably would prescribe a nasal steroid like Nasalcore or Rhinocort, an antihistimine or perhaps a combination. More important, the ENT would examine you to make sure that this was indeed a simple allergy without too many complications.

mucinex, an otc med really helps with post nasal drip and congestion.

benadryl is great for all allergy symptoms but it makes you sleepy so best to take it at night.

OTC nasal sprays like flonase (it's an otc topical steroidal med)can give some relief but DON'T use AFRIN - it's addictive and causes rebound symptoms within days.

My favorite (daily) TX is nasal irrigation.  Most drug stores sell SINUCleanse packets that you dissolve in water and then flush out your nasal passages, using either an ear syringe or a neti pot.  Or you can use any OTC spray like Ocean or AYR or make your own with salt, water and baking soda.

Clariton and I believe zyrtec are also now OTC.

This is the start of spring allergy season - trees especially - and it's projected to be a bad one - probably 'til the end of may so ya need to staret treating symptoms now before they get worse.

let me know if ya need more info -

Answered below. You might also want to look at what SFGirl has been suffering through lately. No one can definitely say it was caused by the treatment drugs but they have to be high up on the list as suspects.

I can't see the posts below. Not even the post with the question I asked you. refresh button doesn't help either.

I'll try again. Yes without a doubt if the interferon caused the problem with SFB, this drug is a nightmare for sure. But part of me has a feeling that the sx effects that alot of people experience may possibly be from the other meds such as riba and or combination drugs such as mixing ambien with Add's on top of tx drugs.

Not to be misunderstood, if someone needs to take these drugs for relief, I can fully understand and I would be taking them myself if thats the only way I could get through tx, but what I scratch my head about is that many doctors pass out all these drugs not knowing what an extra 3-5 (maybe) differnet drugs may do. They couldn't have had studies on ALL these combo's included with the tx. Yet some doctors are so quick to tell someone to not take vitamins because they haven't done enough studies. Do you know what I mean? I'm struggling for words lately, so I don't know if I am understood half the time or making any sense.

I'll see if I can read your post below and then I'm out of here for a while. I am so behind on a project becasue I am always back and forth looking at this forum. I make excuses and say I can slack off during tx, but I feel I am not getting what I need to get done.

So I don't want anyone to think I jumped off a cliff if they don't see me for a few days. lol

Some of the allergies medicines even OTC might not be good for the liver. So it's best to check with your doctor or NP.

The tree pollen doesn't bother me just weeds. They will be pollenating here soon.

I heard on the news this morning that up here in the Northeast it is going to be the WORST allergy season on record. Great....I usually look like a raccoon on a good year..............now having post tx grey skin...baldish head...scars from the ribascratching.............................................................................

Oy.

Any good allergy med should help you BUT it is also going to dry you out big time. I don't know how bad you are dehydrated but I was horrible and could only take an allergy relief pill as a last resort.........my tongue was ALWAYS glued to the top of mouth even without one so I spoke Like "Mrwah mawme is Dwebby" so.........I think many people thought I had some serious problems.

Well..........they may have been right but you nkow what i Mean!
