At what levels do (ast/alt) cause damage? (posted otherside too)

Sorry guys, haven't been here lately and the last I knew it was difficult for some to navigate back and forth to the two forums...but anyway...HELP..LOL!

Hi everybody...I'm in complete shock. I took my son over to the clinic for his Mononucleosis because he isn't getting better, just worse and his ALT came back at 664 and AST at 468. He is sooooo sick. his Bili was at 1.10 though so that is ok... I guess. Range is ?-1.30. They put him on I.V.'s for a little over an hour and then sent him home. On his test results sheet it says Critical High instead of just High so that kinda freaked me out. Shouldn't he be in the hospital for enzymes like that??? Just wondering. I mean geesh, I have tx'd for Hep for crying out loud and mine have only been up to the 200's and I thought that was scary..LOL. I also decided to have him tested for Hep C also. I am going to get all 4 of them tested...just to be safe. Anyways, I really hope someone can answer my question. Love to all,

Thanks for the words of confidence...I have never seen Mono like this...LOL...the kids I have seen with Mono are just "sick" like with a long term cold or something. But now that you have described what you went through and a nurse told me about what she went through yesterday, I feel a little better about it. And your right about falling asleep anywhere...LOLOL...I have really got to watch him..you wouldn't believe some of the places I have found him!!! Well, it's a day past laundry day (ick) so better get started so I can be finished by 8pm tonight...lol. Thanks again,

I am just catching up with this this morning.  How is your son?  I hope he is feeling better after the weekend.  I don't know anything about mono - just concerned for your family.

Hi, well we went to the Dr. again today and he is doing better. I won't find out the Hep test for a week or so, and I'll find out how his enzymes were from today tomorrow or so. But the good thing is he is doing better. I'm just praying that the high enzymes were just from the Mono and no damage has been done. I have just run myself into the ground over the last two weeks. I feel just drained. I actually went ahead and had the blood draw for my 3mo. VL test today and will find out soon the results. I'll post them when they come in....

How are you doing???

Thanks for letting me know you are ok after a flare up like that...WOW those are high numbers. They gave him I.V.'s because he was so very dehydrated...he just couldn't keep anything down and well, we all know how that goes! He has been able to handle certain kinds of gatorade and has been holding it down since yesterday. He is feeling better today but just doesn't get up and around at all. Just sleeps. Well, thanks again.       -Mequila

Sad truth is that once you had flare up ,there are not any conventional drug to reduce inflammation. I was in er and iv was a joke, what for??

You just had to take antiviral and rest and let the liver recover slowly. That is why I went on Chinese herb.

when i had the flare up after failing epivir, it went ast 1000+ and alt 2000+. I had fatty liver via ultrasound, then I took chinese herb to reduce inflammation and it recover in 1 month. So far the damage is REVERSIBLE.

i think only long term or repeat flare up can cause permanent scars. even that is kind of debateble now day.
