Some people should not get the vaccine or should wait

You should not get 2009 H1N1 LAIV if you have a severe
(life-threatening) allergy to eggs, or to any other substance
in the vaccine. Tell the person giving you the vaccine if you
have any severe allergies.

2009 H1N1 LAIV should not be given to the following groups.
• children younger than 2 and adults 50 years and older
• pregnant women,
• anyone with a weakened immune system,
• anyone with a long-term health problem such as
- heart disease - kidney or liver disease
- lung disease - metabolic disease such as diabetes
- asthma - anemia and other blood disorders
• children younger than 5 years with asthma or one or more
episodes of wheezing during the past year,
• anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders (such as
cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or swallowing
problems,
• anyone in close contact with a person with a severely
weakened immune system (requiring care in a protected
environment, such as a bone marrow transplant unit),
• children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment.
If you are moderately or severely ill, you might be advised to
wait until you recover before getting the vaccine. If you have
a mild cold or other illness, there is usually no need to wait.
Tell your doctor if you ever had:
• a life-threatening allergic reaction after a dose of seasonal
fl u vaccine,
• Guillain-Barré syndrome (a severe paralytic illness also
called GBS).

These may not be reasons to avoid the vaccine, but the
medical staff can help you decide.

2009 H1N1 LAIV may be given at the same time as most other
vaccines. Tell your doctor if you got any other vaccines within
the past month or plan to get any within the next month. H1N1
LAIV and seasonal LAIV should not be given together.

Thanks for sharing the article - but it is for the nasal version which will be available first. It contains a live virus whereas the injection that will be out in a few weeks is made from dead virus matter. I was a bit paranoid about getting it until I read that the H1N1 shot is made the same way as the seasonal vaccine. I have had the seasonal for 15 years now and have avoided the flu every year (I used to get them all the time). I see no reason based on everything i read why to wait on H1N1. In Australia it spread very rapidly although the death toll wasn't horrible. So if we wait for the flu to hit, it will be too late to prevent it.

Ben Franklin - good advice on oregano - but best used in marinara sauce.

wild oregeno  is not the same a regular oregeno ...it will burn you mouth and has different healing compounds.."  CARVACOL"..(spelling)...

The volatile composition of Origanum dubium in two different maturation stages has been studied. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation in a modified Clevenger-type apparatus, and their analyses were performed by GC and GC-MS. Identification of the components was made by comparison of mass spectra and retention indices with literature records and by co-chromatography with authentic compounds. Carvacrol was shown to be the main constituent. The essential oils were evaluated for antimicrobial activity and proved to be active against all tested microorganisms. Furthermore, their potential antioxidant activity was investigated and found to be significant in scavenging O2-. The samples were further evaluated for inhibition of soybean lipoxygenase LOX and showed high inhibitory activity.

Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, Pakistan.

The present investigation is focused on antibacterial potential of infusion, decoction and essential oil of oregano (Origanum vulgare) against 111 Gram-positive bacterial isolates belonging to 23 different species related to 3 genera. Infusion and essential oil exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus saprophyticus, S. aureus, Micrococcus roseus, M. kristinae, M. nishinomiyaensis, M. lylae, M. luteus, M. sedentarius, M. varians, Bacillus megaterium, B. thuringiensis, B. alvei, B. circulans, B. brevis, B. coagulans, B. pumilus, B. laterosporus, B. polymyxa, B. macerans, B. subtilis, B. firmus, B. cereus and B. lichiniformis. The infusion exhibited maximum activity against B. laterosporus (17.5 mm mean zone of inhibition +/- 1.5 Standard deviation) followed by B. polymyxa (17.0 mm +/- 2.0 SD) and essential oil of oregano exhibited maximum activity against S. saprophyticus (16.8 mm +/- 1.8 SD) followed by B. circulans (14.5 mm +/- 0.5 SD). While all these tested isolates were found resistant to decoction of oregano.

There is a study going on right now to see if lozenges containing a low dose of interferon-alpha can prevent and/or reduce the severity of colds and flu.

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00895947

I know every disagrees but I still think if you are on Interferon it's unlikely you will catch the flu.  Not to mention, the anti-viral drugs you may be taking.

I found this quote in numerous articles, (prevention magazine, Free Online Articles Directory, etc.) but I can't seem to find it from the source, Harvard.

"Immunologists at Harvard University discovered that people who drank five cups of black tea a day for 2 weeks transformed their immune system T cells into “Hulk cells” that pumped out 10 times more cold and flu virus - fighting interferon — proteins that defend against infection — than did the immune systems of those who didn’t drink black tea. Green tea should work just as well."

Yeah, tea, I will do that, I love black tea w/ a little milk and honey.  I hope that doesnt change it.

Mmm, I'd like a shot of oregano with pond scum chaser please.  Perhaps it will help me understand all those tedious quotes.
