Criminalize Organic Farming?

by Rockerforlife, Nov 01, 2009 09:47AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epXNJNjYBvw&eurl=http://www.prisonplanet.com/bill-to-ban-organic-farming.html&feature=player_embedded

Section 3 which is the definitions portion of the bill-read in it’s entirety.
* section 103, 206 and 207- read in it’s entirety.

What it Does:

* Legally binds state agriculture depts to enforcing federal guidelines effectively taking away the states power to do anything other than being food police for the federal dept.
* Effectively criminalizes organic farming but doesn’t actually use the word organic.
* Effects anyone growing food even if they are not selling it but consuming it.
* Effects anyone producing meat of any kind including wild game.
* Legislation is so broad based that every aspect of growing or producing food can be made illegal. There are no specifics which is bizarre considering how long the legislation is.
* Section 103 is almost entirely about the administrative aspect of the legislation. It will allow the appointing of officials from the factory farming corporations and lobbyists and classify them as experts and allow them to determine and interpret the legislation. Who do you think they are going to side with?
* Section 206 defines what will be considered a food production facility and what will be enforced up all food production facilities. The wording is so broad based that a backyard gardener could be fined and more.
* Section 207 requires that the state’s agriculture dept act as the food police and enforce the federal requirements. This takes away the states power and is in violation of the 10th amendment.

This is erroneous BS, one of those panic emails that made the rounds a few months ago.  It's a US bill that sets up a stronger food safety department, separate from other departments.  None of the listed bullets is in the bill.  The USDA'a food inspection section was gutted some time ago, the reason that we keep getting e. coli problems from crops like green onions, strawberries and greens.  The bill would put inspectors back into the fields, a good thing for the US food supply.  Why so interested in US policy?

Q: Would a new bill in Congress make my backyard organic garden illegal?

A: A House bill proposes to split the Food & Drug Administration, creating a separate entity to oversee food safety. It’s aimed at food sold in supermarkets and doesn’t say anything about organic gardening, pesticides, farmers’ markets or that tomato plant in your backyard.

You can be interested in US policy.  I worry about you stirring up hysteria against a good thing that we desperately need in this country, a safe food system.

by child24angel, Nov 02, 2009 08:07AM
Free speech is for some, not others :)

by Rockerforlife, Nov 02, 2009 08:07AM
Stopping organic food and using more pesticides is not making foods safe.,and thank you for giving me permission to talk about USA.

Is being a incessant public irritant a criminal activity?

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.

Who wouldn't be GLAD that there is an agency out there to try and keep people safe from unsafe food?  Like any agency or person even nothing is infallible but the fact that they do their best to prevent ecoli outbreaks and things like that makes me very happy.

I don't see any big evil plot against anything here as usual. Just people making sure our food is safe. Nothing wrong with that. :)

Rocker, I hope you will clear up some confusion for me.  You frequently cite your right to post your negative opinions about the United States, its laws and its federal agency rules and you call this "free speech" yet when others tell you that you are an irritant you characterise this as "using derogoty belittling insulting comments and words towards members of this borad" (sic)  What is the difference?

by Rockerforlife, Nov 02, 2009 04:25PM
Its ok to have negative opinions, but i dont say to anyone or any govt  that they are irratant  and are crimials,im just voicing what i think without using derogoty belittling insulting comments and words towards anyone one or any thing about USA

by Trish77, Nov 02, 2009 04:26PM
I don't think Mike's comment was derogoty at all.

I have a negative opinion but I will keep it to myself

Seems like you can dish it out but you can't take it.  I think Mike and others are just voicing their opinions, and they have as much right to post their opinions as you have to post yours.

You feel justified in posting your opinions, some of which are derogatory as I read them.  They way you buy into so-called conspiracies strikes me as silly, and your posts on that subject are very irritating to me (and I suspect also to others), and I enjoy the same right to free speech as you do.  If your posts irritate people, you can expect people to post their reactions to those posts.

That should read "The way you buy..."

by Rockerforlife, Nov 02, 2009 04:43PM
iF YOU find my post irritating, then you dont really see whats going on or dont really care or you work for FDA or some giant drug company....the truth is big pharma is worried about the alternative industry cutting in on profits and organic farming is not liked by big pharma and the commerical food industry...if you dont see this and think this all goobly gook....then i think you need to face reality and help stop whta going on,,,this is problem..too many are afraid to speak up
