A pharmacokinetic profile with fewer peaks and troughs.
The large (40 KDa), branched form of polyethylene glycol used with PEGASYS (PEGINTERFERFERON ALFA 2A 40 KD) helps to create its pharmacokinetic profile.
PEGASYS (PEGINTERFERFERON ALFA 2A 40 KD) peak serum concentrations are reached 72 to 96 hours after dosing, and are sustained for up to a full week (a total of 168 hours).
PEGASYS (PEGINTERFERFERON ALFA 2A 40 KD) achieves steady-state drug levels in 5 to 8 weeks, and the absolute bioavailability of PEGASYS (PEGINTERFERFERON ALFA 2A 40 KD) is 84%. Sustaining significant serum concentrations in this manner may play a role in inhibiting viral replication, since it minimizes the peaks and troughs commonly associated with Roferon-A (Interferon alfa-2a), which is injected three times per week.
