Detox suggestions post-tx?

Hey all! 2 weeks and counting down...As soon as I'm done, I'm planning on detoxing to purge this yuck from my system! Anybody do this with any success? If so, what did you do? My Naturopath specializes in cancer patients, but is not as familiar with the all encompassing issues from the ribavirin...Any input will be appreciated...Oh, if some poor soul out there needs it, I'll have 90 extra Riba caps left over...                                      ~Melinda

I know, i just did my last shot Thursday nite. You can boost your immune system a bit without detoxing. Just eat good, take your vitamins and such-you know what to do.
Just let your body handle getting rid of the meds as it will.  I have found over the years, reading what others have written, that some feel better right away when stopping tx and others, well they don't.  It takes a bit longer.  As i said, I'd just let the meds run their course as they will. They built up in our system gradually, they will leave the same way.
According to my DR., I will feel better gradually, not all at once.
IMO, it's the best way...

Thanks for your comments..Xenigma...I hadn't thought of it from that point of view...My immune system will need all the help it can get, as when I return to work, I'll be jumping back in the "cesspool"...(I work on an ambulance around sniffling, hacking, orifice oozing, unhealthy cootie infested people...:)...)...I feel a sense of urgency to get my system as healthy as possible as soon as possible...Yannow? Reality says I won't be able to end treatment and immediately start running marathons, but I want to do SOMETHING...(I'm usually a very patient person, but this feels like when I was 7 yrs old waiting for Christmas...LOL)                                   ~Melinda

I also believe that one should wait for the body to slowly get rid of the tox by itself for a period of time, as detoxing diets can cause some strong reactions even on a healthy body.

I personally want to do exactly the same as you do.... detox... after tx. I will listen to my body to tell me when the right time is. Theoretically it would maybe be good to wait until SVR? I don't know? Or maybe 3 months after?

I think it might be a good idea to ask Dr. D. what he thinks. How long after tx would it be okay to do a cleansing diet, not to interfere with the course of treatment? Or something like that.

Also I would like to do Dr. Zhangs herbal protocol after completing tx. But I have the same question... How long after completing tx would that be okay.

I personally do not want to detox and get this stuff out of my system faster than it should.  I just finished 48 weeks (5 more days of Riba now) and am even drinking a bit less water now. I want my meds to stay in my system and let them keep working for as long as they will at EOT. That'll also give my immune system a decent chance to come back on line (so to speak) since I am not cutting down my peg and Riba over an extra 4-5 weeks.

Any 'detoxing' or 'purifying', I've ever tried to do post treatment, has only served to make me feel worse then I ever do.  I bought a juicer and was trying to do the juicing to 'detox' myself and I ended up with the worst gut ache.  I deducted that as usual, overdoing these things always makes me feel 10 times worse.  But, to each his/her own.

My "toxins", being Riba residual primarily (interferon is really just a natural substance which clears even faster), have cleared naturally, as they are proven to do. No need to spend money on magic to do that, but if it makes you feel better, then go ahead.

Hi Melinda!

Only 2 weeks left for you!!  You made it!  Well, almost, but you will... :-)

I was given the suggestion of "manual lymphatic drainage" massage to detox... I had one treatment and liked it -- that was about two weeks ago... I don't know how effective it was overall (I need to look at my lymph nodes today... they were all extremely swollen during and after tx... and my whole body was bloated...) but it sure felt good!  When I got home after the massage, I slept for about 3 hours straight -- just like I would when on tx :-)

I've been wanting to tell you something about after-tx energy levels... mine anyway... It seemed like if I had a busy, productive day, then on the next I would be drained... So, I started planning my weeks accordingly -- one day activity, the next day rest... That was for about 2 months post tx... Now, it's not so noticeable, but even 3 months after tx I do get a little more tired than usual from time to time... Maybe you can start your work schedule one day on, one day off, if you have similar experience...

Can't wait to hear your good news of UND and SVR!!  When will you do your first post-tx VL?
