Grilled Pizza

Hi Everyone,

I had my girls over for grilled pizza and everything went well.  The girls thought I should have told them I had hepC last year when I was diagnosed, but they got over that fast.  They will be a big comfort and help to me, so thanks to you who suggested I tell them.

I just gave myself my first shot 10 minutes ago.  I just have to wait and see what happens now. Ugh.

For those of you who are wondering about the grilled pizza, this is how we did it...

We got pizza dough from the grocery store.  You can use wheat or white.  We did let it rise a bit, but it didn't seem to get too big.  We split each dough ball in half and worked the dough until it was flat and square.  It's sticky so we did this part in the air mostly.  We used a flat pan that would fit in the grill and covered it with tin foil.  Spray the tin foil with non-stick spray and place your square dough.  We put them in a med/high grill for maybe 5 minutes.  Once the bottom is crusty brown we took turned the dough over right onto the grill and removed the pan.  Then we loaded it up with crusty side with sliced cooked chicken, tomatoes, basil, sliced mozzarella, sauteed mushrooms, and a little parmesan cheese for a little kick.  Once everything was loaded on, we turned the grill down to low and closed the top so the cheese would melt and the bottom crust would brown.

It was, as we say in New England, wicked awesome!

Not about telling the girls, but about giving us the recipe:) I'm glad you have the burden of hiding this off your chest. I felt too overwhelmed at first too, but hindsight is 20/20.
Pizza sounds "wicked", now that's a New England word! (husband from Portsmouth)

Thanks for responding to the request for the pizza...lol!!!!! And mostly for letting us know how it turned out with your girls. I'm so happy for you. I can't imagine having to go through that hiding it. Bless you and let us know how the next few days go!!! For many, the first are the worst.     -Mequila.

Hello I am so glad that you are not burdened with a secret, see after the first few weeks they would have noticed that you weren't feeling well.... now you will have your support.  My girls have been spoiling me occassionally with lunch dates and other thoughtfulness - however they don't do windows, floors, dishes,  well maybe some vaccuuming.  you will see how disclosure brings you closer.

thank you for sharing your experience AND the pizza recipe, i know i would love to try that. i was just saying today i need to get the grill ready for summer.

good luck, you might not experience too much discomfort the first weeks of treatment, but as the meds build in your system...some people start having trouble as hemo drops, and some do not, and  youv'e likely read about the riba rage.. might be good to forewarn the effects of the meds as well.  so they will understand what is causing the irritability and occassional outburst. it is a difficult concept for adult children to grasp. even when you tell them, they don't always understand fully when they see it in action.

take care

Thanks the pizza know-how.  It sounds good and when I feel a little more ambitious I'll give it a try. Til then a cll to 'Mamas Pizza' will have to do.  By the way, pizza is a food that seems to have some interest for me on treatment.  Glad it went ok with the kids.

I'm glad you told your daughters about your illness. They should be a big help to you. I just heard about the grilled pizza yesterday for the very first time and now you have shared the recipe. Thanks. I'm getting hungry already.
