Yeppers, after posting on the Thyroid side am really not upset at all.
I am aware that a lot more blood work has to be done and maybe the biopsy - NOT so crazy about that!!!
In the past my wacky PIS did show an enlarged thyroid but the numbers were always normal so will see what the other blood work comes back this time around.
Thanks again for the words of comfort.
p.s. after carrying 70 lbs due to treatment *even with a very careful diet/portion control and vigorous exercise - never drove in my life - a cyclist, jogger, walker... suddenly I have been losing weight - another mystery! a good one this time around. Just a few pounds a month since Feb but...
Don't get to upset about the thyroid nodules. Many people have them. I have low TSH but am hyperthyroid due to thyroid nodules. They can cause some wacky stuff. Like fast heat beat. Not good for your heart and medication is used to slow it down. Thyroids needs to be monitor because of the effects on your body can be damaging if you don't stay on top off it.
Best to you
Thanks guys, wonderful information. I am going to make an appt. soon, I'll let you know the outcome.
dontworry is spot on!
I am not positive about different labs but it might also be best to show the range in any blood work as some labs use different ranges?!?!
Oddly enough I was just given my lab results. I did old school treatment many years ago and during treatment I was diagnosed w hypo but after clearing HepC my numbers went back to normal *but my life never did. I have PIS so I think my number may change around but so far have always been normal.
During treatment and after I gained so much weight even while maintaining a very healthy diet + strong exercise regime of cycling and jogging daily! I even fasted but all in all I gained about 70 lbs going from 150 to 220! There was NOTHING I could do to change the weight all these years.
Finally this Feb I lost a few lbs and it has been slowly melting away - me doing nothing different... happy but wondering why.
Doc orders some FASTING blood work *I hate fasting as I am a grazer - but I did it!!! Someone said it could be my blood sugar, or this or that... then I get a call the doc wanted a thyroid scan!
Got a call and all the blood work was fine. They only did the TSH as well = TSH HHS - 0.871 uIU/mL - 0.36 - 3.74.
Then I got copies of the Thyroid papers. The nurse said they wanted me to see an Endo...
Some scary stuff there that I didn't understand. "Biopsy" was the most nervous!
I put my story up on the thyroid community and it seems things are not so grave!
"IMPRESSION:
Enlarged thyroid lobes bilaterally right greater than left increasing in size from the prior study.
Dominant nodule in the midpole of the left thyroid lobe. Consider follow-up ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsy of this nodule."
If it takes a long time to see your Endo maybe your doc can order these:
*FREE T3 *FREE T4 *THYROID ANTIBODIES
Another thing to consider is "Iodine Blockage". This can happen due to medicine or medical condition. As well as the types of foods eaten. An IODINE TRANSFER TEST may be administered to check if there is a blockage.
I am interested in this as I only use sea salt but am sure that I get plenty of iodined salt in my diet in regular foods...
Hope some of all that helps out, f
Go to endocrinologist and get the answers. TSH only isn't enough info. A complete thyroid panel is needed. Hepatitis C treatment can cause thyroid problems. Your best option to find out exactly what's happening with your thyroid is seeing the endocrinologist. At least your doctor is together enough to refer you. Many GPs try to give you thyroid medication without getting a expert opinion. This was my experience and endocrinologist visit clarified I needed a different kind of medication completely.
