HGH & HCV????

HGH & HCV????

Hubby has been going thru all kinds of tests.  One of them for HGH (human growth hormone).  Doc said for a man his age (60) it should be about 250.  His came back at 50.  This is his primary phys.  He goes to his GI today and is going to ask about it.  I have never even heard of this test.  Does anyone know if it could have a relationship to the HCV??

The only thing I've read abou HGH is supplements for weight loss.  He does not need that, under weight now.

Lots out there on HGH supplements, sounds like snake oil to me.  It will make you lose weight, stop aging, improve your sex life, blah, blah, blah.  If that were true, we should all be taking it, think of what a great group of heppers we would be. :)

Reading on, the growth hormone is real, most of the supplements are ****.  Still can't find any relationship to HCV.  I AM serious.  The nurse called yesterday with these results and no other information.  Anyone??

This is an exerpt from the article, and I would imagind that because the liver is involved, hgh can be affeted by hcv?

Produced in the anterior section of the pituitary gland deep in the brain, HGH is a microscopic protein substance. Chemically, it is somewhat similar to insulin although it is secreted in short pulses during the first hours of sleep and after exercise; it only remains in the circulation for a few minutes. As such, it is extremely difficult to measure HGH in blood serum. However, the body binds most of the growth hormone in the liver and converts some into Somatomedin-C, another protein hormone also called Insulin-like Growth Factor- I (IGF-I). Since Somatomedin-C remains in the blood stream for 24-36 hours, a blood sample identifying Somatomedin-C will be a more dependable indicator of competent HGH production. Normal Somatomedin-C blood levels in adults range from 200 to 450 ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter). Yet, one-third of individuals over 50 years of age show abnormal levels less than 200 ng/ml. During the growth spurt of youth, HGH levels are maximum and the Somatomedin-C will be measured well over 600- 800 ng/ml. Yet for normal men and women under 40, less than 5% have levels below 250 ng/ml! After 40 many men and women have the same amount of HGH as an octogenerian! And that may be the key to aging as we now know it!

Thank you so much.  This helps some except I think I am stupid.  Part of the reason I did not post on the other board.

He went to his GI today and the Doc. has no clue.  More tests, another biopsy, I am at a loss.  He told him he will probably die with HCV, not from it.  We have all heard that one before.  So WHY is he so sick?

My hormones are not all at levels they should be. In part, maybe menopause, but i do believe alot of the off levels are from hcv. my Dhea is high for quite some time and my progesteron is low. Though the low progesterone alot of women have at this age, i still say alot of this is from the virus as the liver does have a big role in hormones.

you 'should' consider posting this question in the other forum. HR will be able to advise you, along with others.

good luck!

The menopause hormone changes I understand all too well. Having a hot flash while writing this!  Although on tx it seemed to subside.  Maybe that

also..you may want to check out salivatest.com. The hormones levels found in blood serum aren't as accurate as when you take a saliva test. the saliva test shows the level which is in the tissue. I often wonder if they can do a hep c test with saliva to show if there is anything in our tissue, since they do say that the virus hides. It makes sense to me, but I'm sure I would hear people/or even doctors say hep c is not in saliva. I am one that happens to believe it is. Other virus's are found in saliva. for example epstein barr is in saliva and is known as the 'kissing disease'. People say 'oh if that was the truth, so many more people would have hep c.

Yes I agree! and maybe they do! it IS the silent killer!

ps. look up Dr. John Lee. He was a great doctor. He was like the hormone guru. ha! He wrote a book,.'what your doctor doesn't tell you about menopause.' It is filled to the brim with info. A very very interesting read.

take care.
