Has anyone noticed that YOu get alot of Junk/Health emails after coming to this site ?
Everytime I come to the website I get spammed with emails. Sincejoining the forum, I get over 100 junk emails a day. I wonder if Medhelp is allowing our email info to get out, and how we can stop it.. I am tried of having to weed thru my emails everything I come online to this site.
I used to get so much, it was driving me up the walls. Especially since I tend to shop online. I don't get spams since I starting using a mac. It has made my life sooo much easier.

I have been getting junkmails that actually SAY MedHelp in the subject line, with a long number after it. Does anyone else get these?

just a fellow hepper and lurker and came across this thread. I've been in the web develpment business for over 12 years.
There are illegal spammers that have software that will actually scour the net for email addresses and where they are registered. They can get lists of emails from sites that are specifically designed for specific interests...such as hep c, sprituality, gaming...etc.
Then they send out spam that seems targeted. If the companies that hire these spammers get even a 1% response, it makes it worth their while to annoy the hell out of us.

You could be right.. I do some research on line from time to time, about some of the symptoms and such.. Guess I will just have to use MSN to filter them, it just takes so long to get to my mail that way.. My Norton used to filter them, but for some reason on my renewal, that option has disappeared.

But if you have been doing any heavy dd's or research on the web about hep c the web sites you visited some how gets your email address. I've been lucky so far.

Actually all my forward mail and such, use an AIM or MSn address, just for all those same reasons you all mentioned. I only get a few emails from people I know on this account. But since joining the site, I get medical emails everytime I come back to the site.. I get sent like 3 - 10 emails each time. then throughout the day. If I use my MSN account to read emails it filters them out for me, but I just do not get it, why I am getting them here. I never give out this email. Now that I just posted again, I am going to go see how many I get.
This is why I have multiple email accounts.
LOL @ 'chonic forwarders'. I have some friends that forward email 'chronically' so I get two or three sets of the same email. Thing is, as a result I don't read ANY of their emails and I always have to laugh when I talk to them on the phone months later and they say, 'Why didn't you answer my email ?' Also funny is that most of it is political satire and i don't have the heart to tell them I'm not of the same ilk as them.
Now this is funny. My sister and brother-in-law are very religious and send me 'end of the world' stuff every now and then. About a month ago I got an email with a warning that they had 'heard' through 'reliable sources' that 'something' was about to happen 'next weekend' and I should store some food and water and ...get this...plant some FRUIT TREES !!
I was like FACK, I can't go out and start growing my own food on such short notice. How fast do they think a damn tree grows ?
As I always tell her in these doomsday scenarios, I don't think my neighbors are gonna just 'let it slide' if they're starving and I'm sitting on the porch eating
apples and oranges. Being prepared for a few days is all well and fine, but if people are starving you better have a nice arsenal in your closet as well, which I don't, which means of course, I'm screwed. But I don't care. There's enough dogs in the neighborhood we could all eat for a year.
Reminds of the joke about the farmer and the 3 legged pig ....A guy runs out of gas and walks to a farmhouse for assistance. When talking to the farmer he notices there is a 3 legged pig in the living room. He asks what happened to it. Farmer says it's a special pig. There was a fire and he woke everyone up and saved his family's life. The guy says, yeah but why does he just have three legs ? Farmer says, 'You don't eat a pig like that all at once.'

no, i don't get those at first when i saw your post thought - it might be your email security, but mauilady (?) post made sense. it is amazing how even very educated people continue to send silly forward chain letter emails. letters about bill gates giving away money, even once an apology forward letter saying that they accidently gave me virus through forward mail w/instructions to go into the REGISTRY and erase something that had a little brown bear...i later found it was hoax letter and told the sender and requested they no longer send forwards...they don't email to me anymore - all they ever sent was forward stuff anyway. don't people have better things to do?
i guess we have a very supersticous society gives those spammers a lot of opportunites.
but i do notice that when you click on house links mortgage and whatnot that get a lot of emails related. do you open health sites? i just had to do computer reset date as i opened a site my computer started acting funny saw note about font change. thought uh,oh....they got me again. i just reset the computer to earlier date to rid it.

It's not this site that's doing it; do you have friends that are what I call "chronic forwarders"? Those are the people who insist on forwarding every stupid joke, or angel thingie,ot chain mail that comes their way, along with all the previous and present recipients and their email addresses. That's where all the SPAM is coming from. I was getting tons of it, but as soon as I stopped people from sending me that ****, the SPAM stopped too. Here's a website to check out:
