You've posted on an older thread. If you want to start a new thread hit the post a question button- now you know. There's two hep c forums. This is the hep c social forum.
Cory.
You will have to seek a professional that deals with both because that is what is going on with my husband. He just got diagnosed with the hepatitis C stage 4 and was sent to a specials but they first got the platelets under control.
Your doctor made a really stupid remark...the spleen and liver looked fine so he didn't test for HCV? OMG...what an idiot!!!! Looked fine?
No, the ITP isn't from the liver pressing on the spleen. Have you had a bone marrow test to see if you are producing the platelets normally?
Here is a good article to read about HCV and ITP:

Oh - wow -- well that's interesting.
Could be that indeed.
Thanks for explaining Kathy!
Much luck to ya!
Thank you so much for responding. ITP is a disorder (they don't know what causes it), that reduces platelets in the body, sometimes to a very low amount. What I find confusing is the references to low platelets from individuals on the forum because of the liver pressing on the spleen. I thought maybe this was the reason I was diagnosed with ITP to begin with since ITP is only diagnosed by exclusion. But when I called my hemotologist and asked if I was tested for C when I was going through the exclusion for ITP he said "No, because the sonogram and MRI showed the liver was fine." This was two years ago. So I'm thinking that I probably had C already.

I don't know what ITP is.
And I don't know how it will affect you Kathy - I'm sorry I just don't have that information.
Hugs,
