High Amonia(ammonia) Level? - Post Treatment

I completed my second treatment five weeks ago. I am geno 1. Last fibrotest 6 month ago said I was late stage 3 / early stage 4. My last treatment was 48 weeks of Pegintron and Ribavarin and I was UND at 6 weeks, 12, 30, and 48 weeks of the treatment. I just took a viral load teast last week and am anxiously waiting for the results. Throughout both treatments I did not take any antidepresants.

The five weeks of post treatment have been difficult with shakiness and serious cognitive problems where I get lost and can't remeber what I am doing when solving simple tasks. Towards the end of tx my doctor tested me for amonia (ammonia) level with a blood test. My result for amonia (ammonia) was 175 umol/l where the normal range is given as 16-60 umol/l. My doctor immediately put me on Rfaxmin Tablets (Rifagut) an antibiotic and also Duphalac a laxative.

Has anyone had experience with a high amonia (ammonia) level like this and knows what it might mean? I have taken these medicines for about five weeks now and am still feeling awful with tiredness, irritability, and cognitive problems with thinking and remembering.

Thanks for all your help on the forum.

So sorry I can't help with the amonia (ammonia) levels, although I summise that it's unusual given your UND status.  In saying that,  ALT's can be raised during the course of tx due to the interferon, and perhaps there has been some inflammation.

What I do know, is that after 48 weeks of tx, 5 weeks post is not very long at all to expect to be feeling too much better, but hopefully the further away you get from the meds, the sooner things will pan out.  Best of luck - take it slow and hassle your doctor for some explanations!!!
