Holiday gifts

I wonder how everybody handles gifts to doctors?
Do you give presents in addition to cards?
Separate for doctors and nurses?

My wife is supersensitive to this issue and
the number of doctors keeps growing in reverse proportion to the stock market:)

To my chagrin, I mailed a card to my local treating doctor and nurse.  Even though I'm not happy with the level of care I've received from him, he has tried to help me so a simple thank you for everything was included on the card.   My hepa doc out of town is Jewish and my cards specifically say Merry Christmas so I didn't send him one.  Besides, I've only met with him one time so I don't feel it's necessary to send a card.
I think something the whole office could enjoy such as cookies or candies would be very appropriate if you have a good relationship with your doctor and staff.  Anything we can eat at office is always a good idea!!!

Sweets, cookies for the whole office is probably the best idea. Once you single out somebody, you create a situation, but I do want to show special appreciation to my liver doc who has treated me for 15 yrs, then there is his nurse who is also there for many years. Then many other docs as well, family doc and his NP, lab who I go every month.  It becomes quite a task to handle it all.  Thanks for your input and all the best! Jeff

Exactly or just something they can all share.   I have "my people" also, my lab girl, my drug nurse,  The GI and his staff.

no worries and all the best to you and yours as well.

Funny! I just barely asked Walrus if I could make a plate of goodies for his wonderful new doctor & staff. I will do that next week, I think. Words cannot express my admiration for this man and his wonderful nurses and PA's who actually CARE about Walrus. Having had shoddy care for a year, we are TRULY grateful for the change. How can cookies and candy show the gratitude we feel? I'll do my best!

I am so glad,  you both have been through so much!    Caring is so important. it is important to me as medical knowledge, tho I want both:)

I think those type of gifts, the home made ones, that alway smean the most to me, yet when I give them, I always think the same, how is it enough? to say thank you?

that was so well said Liz, thank you!

For allowing me to suffer for so long before perscribing me the meds I needed, I think I am going to give mine a Black Eye then tie a Bow around his head.

Goodies for my doctors?  Absolutely!  Also for the rest of the staff.  Where would I be without them?

Good reminder! I was actually thinking, "hey, I already gave them my insurance card", but you guys are very thoughtful and so should I be. I really do appreciate my doctor. I think Liz is going to make him some green jello with carrot strips (a little bit of an inside Utah joke).

Jeff88, Deb_c430 have the right of it.

If you are satisfied with your doctor's care, or if your wife simply believes a gift is a gesture of good faith & good will, then sweets or treats for the office is the best and practical way to go.

My GI has a sizeable pratice with a lot of overhead = a lot of clinical and admin staff.
Send or give the gift is given to the doctor and the note mentions it is for the doc & his staff.

If you have ever been in the doctor's office and not an exam room, you will usually see all kinds of stuff patients, vendors, and his/her staff has gifted.

Edible treats are usually remembered and appreciated by every one more than a token the doctor likely does not use, want or need.

One other small point of view: with some distant relationships one cannot always assume the holidays are celebrated and recognised the same way you regard them.
This does not matter much to me, but I have a sister who, like your wife thinks things like this are important and just wants to do the thoughtful thing.

I don't usually send my dr's office anything...I have never had one long enough to form a bond with...

This year I will be sending gifts to the office where I receive tx for HCV...I am very grateful for being given the opportuity to participate in this trial...but they all seem very health concious so I won't send sweeties...I do make nice hand made soaps so maybe I'll send some of them...Hope they like it....
