I'm on Levaquin for a middle ear/sinus infection, making me sick!

Hey there.  Anybody had to be on Levaquin lately?  I'm taking it with food, but it's making me SO NAUSEOUS!!  It's a 750 mg tab, but only for 5 days.   My eardrum is in bad shape, PA said she saw some areas that look ruptured w/dried blood.  I still can't really hear anything out of that ear.  She's also got me taking Afrin nasal spray and Sudafed.  Yes, she knows about the Hep C and I specifically asked her about the liver and whether it was okay to take this since it was only a 5 day regimen.

Won't I get into trouble with Medhelp if I say her name?  I'll just give you the initials, J.P.    Dr. J. had given me her name and phone # to call her at Shands.  Didn't you say something about going to Shands and that you'd had a good experience there???  Maybe that was for your neurologist appt?  Let me know if you can schedule your next Dr. J. appt. at the same time, okay?

I am a little confused? First of all, I also had trouble with my ears the first round of therapy. I really don't remember what the ER gave me, just to much going on at the time. I still have ringing in my ears occassionally.

Are you still on therapy and did you see Dr. J. yesterday? I hope you get some relief from the drug, even though it's hard to take.

I'm not on treatment right now!!!  I guess, I've been on Hep C treatment so much on these boards, that people can't keep track of it!  Well, I've been off of Hep C treatment since back in last June 2006.  I've had a lot of post treatment issues.  It just goes on and on.

Sandy-sorry I haven't had a chance until this moment to get back with you.  I was wiped out yesterday when I first got back to Melb. and today, I've been dragging butt.  My next appt. is in 3 mon.  He's only seeing me every 3 mon. right now, since there's nothing else anybody can do for me, unless and until I am eligible for a study.  He told me to get my liver sono and AFP within the next 3 weeks because they are overdue.  My next appt. is scheduled for April 25th at 12:30.  I told Tara that you and I were trying to connect on the same day.  But, didn't you tell me that Dr. J's seeing you every 2 mon.?  He told me again about calling that witchy woman at Shands.  That lady, which I did call again today, is very rude to me, and there's no reason for it.  I've never been less than pleasant and courteous to her and this is the 2nd time that she's been blowing me off, like, 'get lost' attitude. I'm pretty disgusted w/Shands. I'm glad that you've had a better experience. I'm just going to wait and see what happens when I call Mayo's again in April.  I like Dr. J, I keep thinking that he's going to retire before long. I'm dreading having to start over again finding another gastro. There are no Hepatologists in Brev. Count.

yeah - antibiotics make me sick too.  Also, your ear infection can cause nausea all by itself. One thing I found out is that you want to wait 2 hours before or after you take the riba to take the antibiotic - riba somehow seems to make the nausea reaction worse.  I also got a pair of "sea sickness" bracelets and that seems to help a lot.  Sorry your having this problem - I hate taking antibiotics too, but an infection can really take you down, which is also very bad.  Hope everything resolves soon...

I wish she'd prescribed me something like a Z-pack.  I can tolerate it's effects on my body better.  But, I've already spent a $25 copay on this drug and don't really want to have to spend another $25 for a new round of drug. I guess I just need to tough it up to get through the next 3 doses!

omg - just the word levaquin makes me break out in a sweat....in the middle of tx i was given it for an infection and had a horrible allergic reaction, and was actually taken in the ambulence to the hosp where i spent 5 days!  i started itching like 20 min after i took the levaquin, and then the nausea started, fever shot up to 101.5, and then the swelling in hands and face...
now is on my "allergic to:" file....i, too would call in for something else.  good luck

Oh, I got real sick when I took Levaquin once.  Call your doctor and ask for something else.

I was on Levaquin for I think a month during tx. Don't think it made me nauceous but so much going on during tx hard to remember. Maybe try taking it with something that has more fat in it like milk or ice cream. Hope you feel better soon, sinus and ear infections are no fun.
