Hi there, and best luck now that you are starting your therapy.

Side effects are different for everyone. I would say there is no need to be "under the covers" unless you feel punk enough to be there. Most would say get on with your normal routine as best you can, but be prepared to feel crummy. Take your Tylenol with your shot to help prevent some of the side effects.

Your schedule sounds ok to me... just be sure to take the riba along with a fatty meal. That helps with absorption of the drug, and eases stomach symptoms form the pills. And be sure to drink plenty of water.

There is lots of good advice available here from people just like you who have been through this: stay tuned and ask away!

  At home? Someone with you?
I had to do my 1st with the Dr.

Do the Tylenol before shot, start drinking water and ,really, just go to bed when you feel like it. My 1st shot, not much at all. First several , not much. Just sweats and body aches and hours after shot. I now find that my shots seem to effect me more the 2nd and 3rd day after, but that's me! I am also getting hairer (figure that out??) AND gaining weight!! LOL, I do NOTHING 'normal'.

Good luck sweetie.....you'll do fine and ON TO KILLING THIS NASTY VIRUS.

P.S. You mail me any time, feeling bad, bad days......write, okay?!! You'll have things to ask, Lord knows I sure have!

The effects from pegasys, if any, usually occur from between 24 to 72 hours after injection.

There are a few people who seem to have an immediate reaction but in the past 49 weeks I haven't been among them.

In my case, I often had a 'delayed
" reaction.  I do shots Friday evening and most times I would feel fine until Monday.  Bu, having been on TX so long, the times and routines and SX are constantly changing.

I know how you dread doing this - I felt the same way and I'm sure most people on forum did, too.

You'll have to see what works for you.  The best solution I found is getting a script for ambien.

You'll be ok and you'll be sooooo relieved when this first shot is over.

Let us know how you are.

Schedule seems ok. It is def better to take the second riba dose earlier in evening (so 5 is fine). I was taking mine before bedtime (cause no one told me not to) and it interfered with sleep. Got that worked out and I take at 6 pm now.

I'm with wyntre9 on the delayed sx - I do my shots on Friday evenings and I don't usually feel bad until Sunday. Sometimes it's no biggie and sometimes it lays me low - there's no telling. It does help to take it easy the next day (even if you feel ok) and to also take the tylenol even if you don't feel bad. I wasn't doing that and I think I suffered more than I needed to. Now that I take the tylenol that night and for the next day or two as needed, I feel much better.

Sx are different for all and they also change throughout tx, so post if you experience something that you need help with as you go forward...chances are we've had it!

I had very little sx for the first several months, then I got really bad fatigue, headaches, insomnia for a few months. I made some adjustments at that point (cut out aspertame, tylenol for a couple of days after shot, and more rest and water) and it got better. Now I am almost done (8 weeks left) and I am feeling pretty good most of the time (Yay!).

No need to get into bed with the covers over your head immediately - just go there when you feel you really need to or if there is something fun going on in there! :-)

Good luck!

PS - Oh yeah, think you're drinking enough H2O??? Think again...drink more! ;-)

Since riba should be taken with food/meals with adequate fat content -- sounds like your doing your Peg shot right after a meal? I never did it right after a meal but rather an hour or so before bedtime. Maybe someone else can chime in but I'd imagine Peg around mealtime could result in some nausea/upset stomach? Just a guess.

I have never had nausea as a result of the peg shot, the riba, well that's a different story..The only downside I see to taking the shot right after a meal , might be harder to pinch a fold of belly skin for the shot!!..;^)

I did it. Yep the stress of putting the syringe on and not knowing if it locked on was tough. I didnt pull back on syringe to see if I hit a blood vesssel. There seemed to be resistance when I was injecting and when I pulled syringe out a pin point drop of blood on belly where I pulled out needle.
It all went in though. I hope I did it right.

Thank you for being here for me..whew..............

Congrats on your successful first shot Charm, now just put it out of your mind and go about your business as you would normally do...Although, a bowl of Chunky Monkey wouldn't hurt a bit!!

Charm, congrats on getting through your first day on tx and your first shot.  Hope your weekend goes okay ... silently cheering you on.  That's all I got cause I don't know what it's like yet .. you went through all sorts of ups and downs to get to this point and here you are, hang in there.

Best of luck to you. Just think of it as waging the battle on the virus and take it one week/day at a time.

I just took my 20th shot about an hour ago. For me, I have noticed a change in when the sx comes on. In the first couple of months there was a delay of 24 to 48 hours before I felt the fatigue, etc. Now the sx come on within a few hours after the shout. It works out for me because I can just chill out on Saturdays (actually, many Saturdays I hardly get out of bed). I usually feel much better by Sunday afternoon.

God bless you all

As IamTheWalrus points out, the sx change for many of us throughout the course of tx. For me, just when one thing came on, another went away, and it was an ever-changing saga of sx. The fatigue really hit bad at 4-6 mos, and hair loss was also an issue during that time.

Just happy to report to you all, that nearing the end of the tx (40 weeks in to the 48), I am really feeling GREAT! Went on a cruise with friends over Thanksgiving, and even the travel didn't wear me out. Hair loss has stopped for the most part, and brain fog isn't too bad.

So for those just beginning, and those midway feeling the sx, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Keep up the good work! Used to be that my whole weekend was shot after injection, but now I am out and about with no prob.

Hope you all feeling much better soon, and that your sx is manageable. What an adventure this is (Me, I'd rather go to the Galapagos)!

they told me to take it right before going to sleep, and that I would sleep through much of the reaction that way. I worked, and the first week I noticed nothing the next day even.
2nd week....nausea...they can give you thing for that....mine was only one day mainly.

that's why workers take it friday night...more time to recover for monday.

after a couple of troublesome weeks the shots seemed to have settled down for me, and are the lesser part of what currently bothers me...the Riba on the other hand, definitely causes moments, especially in the first hour of dosing.
but everyone is different....most folks do settle down to managable side effects...but reading other accounts can be scary.

welcome to the carnival ride.....I hope you'll do really well.

"the Riba on the other hand, definitely causes moments, especially in the first hour of dosing."

Agree on that, day pills I get sicker within an hour or so. Since I haven't had much sleeping problems yet, doing the PM ones about 8 so I can head to sleep and skip that part!
