Hey Eric, I've always said that if coffee had been discovered back in the day (hippie day that is) it would be revered as the greatest herb ever found. Starbucks organic is a good everyday drink. jerry PS At the gro. < $10
I used to drink coffee every day, many years ago. It never caused me problems sleeping, even when I drank it right before going to sleep. I still haven't figured out why people react differently.
Strong green tea will keep me awake.
I think that is a good guess. It's like the opposite of taking a sleeping aid short term to establish a sleeping pattern.
I, for one, cannot imagine starting the day without my cup o' joe.
Izzy
What about the idea that the sleep problem is caused by disruptions of the circadian rhythm caused by Interferon? Perhaps the coffee stimulated me early in the morning and somehow that is helping to reestablish the correct rhythm. Just a guess.
Eric
My rhuemy gave me sleep aid for insomnia.I don't like it cause you sleep 3-4 hrs., up again.I drink 2 cups before work and my 1:00 C. I don't usually get till late but also st drinking before I go to sleep. It takes a little while to wind down but have also been sleeping better for the past week.Hope that continues.Couldn't be stress related, not sleeping.Hope your good sleep continues and I'm sure you know when you stop the java you've started, do it slowly.Caffeine withdrawals and headache.

I also had insomnia during TX and about every 2 months or so I still can't sleep for 2 days in a row then I am literally down for the count for 2 - 3 days, I am about 8 months post TX. I am a coffeeaholic. I am afraid to take anything addicting to sleep, wonderful addictive personality that I have. My insomnia doesn't seem to have anything to do with the coffee as I drink it all day, every day. Even with the coffee it still takes me an hour at least to get moving in the morning. I don't really know the answer but if you find one let me know :-)

As I said my husband has been on treatment for 76 weeks no svr,do you know of anything else that is close to coming to the market. he is also a transplant patient so they are being more conservative with him.And yes he sleeps 3hrs at a time naps all day. Ruth
I tried everything -LOL. Nothing worked for me. Ativan helped, but became addictive after a short time.
Eric
I haven't had much trouble sleeping during my TX...middle of wk 23. I have always had coffee in the morning since it seems to help lift the fog and give me a little motovation. Have you ever tried Melatonin to sleep? I have been using it for years when I am under stress as it helps to shut my brain off. (since being on tx, I can't seem to turn my brain on).
Gator
LOL; I always have had to drink coffee to go to sleep. ; )
I have always been a caffine addict and therefore have also been prone to posting pro-coffee type studies. When you do that though you also see the *other* type studies as well.
The first was that coffee was supposed to help prevent HCC. One study suggested that it seemed to help people with alcoholic damage; not from HCV. I don't know if they know that yet for sure.
Co-Writer has been posting information which I THINK may be correct about the role of coffee and IR. Long story short I think it is felt that any positives may be small compared to the negatives; especially pre TX or during TX. When I was in the Vertex trial (for all of 10 days) my NP also said that I should back off on the coffee. For a better explanation of the mechanics of this I'd visit a few of her posts/ threads.
I still love my coffee.... Eric, in your case since you are SVR I doubt that it would make much difference unless you were diabetic or pre-diabetic. Uninterupted sleep is always great and important. As you know....excercise is always helpful as well.
best,
Willy
New keyboard and I can't get used to it. I meant to say "it" not is.
