Itch medication

I am certain this has been covered before but I'm still a newbie to this forum. What medication successfully controlled your itch? Especially for those who had tiny red bumps that actually hurt - always, when one is trying to sleep?

Hey, my rash and itching went away on its own. No meds, no special lotions or Benedryl. My immune system may be compromised but something in there is still kicking!

I had itches, and I had itchy rashes. They were different. The itch had no surface mark on my skin, just jumped all over my body, especially when I got warm. I took an antihistamine/allergy pill. OTC worked fine.
For rashes, different matter. I tried to start off with OTC meds, but thanks to ceanthus, pooh and others, I really quickly saw that I needed big guns. Went for the prescription only 1mg cortisone ointments and cream.
Don't forget, cotton sheets and cotton clothes. Cool compresses and  no soap for you! Some products like Aveena body wash have oatmeal in them, and I found that really soothing.

I needed a prescription level steroid cream for the rash, and was given Triamcinolone 0.1% cream. It worked very well for settling down the rash. I also took Benadryl at night (still do) to help me overcome the nighttime itchiness. Many others have required a prescription for Hydroxyzine for the itching. Many of the tx side effects have a tendency to snowball, so its really best if you can treat them pretty aggressively right away rather than waiting until they get really bad, when they will be much harder to get under control. Good luck!

Hello there!  So sorry it took a awhile for me to respond.
As Chef Lady said antihistamines are good to try like benedryl.  Some have said oatmeal baths will help
I finally found the prescription I was given, it is promethazine. That helped me to sleep.

When it was really bad, before the doctor gave me anything I would get cold washcloths and put them on the bad spots. I also took wet wash clothes put them in the freezer and would use them like that when I was very uncomfortable.  We are all so different, what works foe onr may not works for one may not work for another.

Take care

Keep an eye on the rash/red spots.
