I have done the same ...expect the worse n hope for best. i go in for my first labs Friday. I am not working but am in a program that keeps me very busy plus I do volunteer work 2 days a week. So far I'm keeping up but as I go along I notice more n more that I'm loseing all desire to do anything.
I'm not to far from either one of you...over here outside of Gig Harbor. I'm hoping to start tx in September, and am nervous about what exactly I will and won't be able to accomplish. Trying to prepare for the worst, but praying for the best. Do most people still work during treatment?
Thanks for any input!
Thanks for all your support and input you all are a great help.
Ha Ha
Thanks for the tip. Day after second shot and here we go with the headache again. I got some Ibprofen and it works great. For the most part doing ok just really tired.
Yep, drop a few tylenol with yer shot, you'll be good as new. In all likelihood, in a few weeks, you won't even get headaches anymore.
Of course, you're skin may turn green and fall off, but you won't have any headaches.
JUST KIDDING!
Try the Tylenol. It's a miracle drug.

Everyone talks about taking Tylenol. I hope it works for you. Hopefully that will be all of the side-effects you will experience.. Good luck to you. I dont have sx... But if you experience any. You might post them on the Hep C side... Lots of people know about things to take for those sx. So keep asking. Blondie
First shot party for CC! Congrats on starting your long road to health!
The things that I found most helpful during treatment....
Taking Tylenol 1 hour before doing your shot, and doing the shot at night just before bed time. This way, if you have chills, headache or aches, you sleep through most of it.
Have an electric blanket handy to ward off the chills.
A tube of Mouth moisturizer gel by Oragel works fantastic to ward off nighttime leather-tongue.
You WILL get bored of drinking just water! -Iced tea, a spritz of lemon juice, apple juice, etc is good. Don't wash your pills down with grapefruit or pineapple juice or eat black licorice at the same time as they weaken the pill strength (it's more complicated than that but this was the easiest way to explain.)
Eat yogurt at least twice a week. (Smoothies are okay but they have to use the real yogurt.) This will keep your mouth and gut "flora" healthy. If you get thrush (yeast infection in your mouth) and it becomes sore, a prescription of "Magic Mouthwash" is a God-send.
I think the biggest help was knowing that I had a 36 hour window after my shot before the fatigue/sides would hit. They lasted about 3 days, so by the end of the week, I'd be feeling human again.
Keep track of your blood labs -particularly RBC, WBC, neutrophils, AST, and ALT. If you your anemia suddenly begins to accelerate (for most it will level off by week 10-12), have your thyroid levels checked (TSH, Free T-3. Free T-4). Sometimes the treatment causes thyroiditis, and if this is not controlled, it can cause you to have to end your treatment early.
I supplemented with a multivitamin, vitamin B's and folic acid. As the hemolytic anemia develops, your red blood cells are being destroyed faster than your body can make them. (it isn't lack of iron.) Taking the supplements gives your body the "materials" it needs to rebuild blood cells.
For the crinkly dry itchy skin -I used skin lotion as well as Aveeno after bath body oil (warm water rinse, pat dry.) I also used benedryl and chorophineramine (Clor-con) to control the worst itching.
Hmmm...That's all I can remember.
Oh yes, I almost forgot. -I bequeath you my lucky Hep-C dragon slaying sword and emit a Howard Dean girlie scream in your honor! YYYYEEEAAAGGGHHH!!!! :)~MM
