Just update stuff

Hi everybody.  I don't have alot of news to report, but I haven't been updating much lately so I thought I would.  My labs are looking pretty good as far as things other than a viral load.  I've been off treatment this time 6 mon. since the last trial.  The past 3 yrs, I've been in 2 trials but in both of them, I was pulled off of treatment by week 5 or 6, so it wasn't for an extended period of time.

I had labwork done in Oct.

AST:  99

ALT:  104

Glucose:  111

Platelets:  203

WBC:   4.1

RBC:  4.52

HGB:  14.0

A1C:    5.9    (in normal range per their values)
_____

On Jan. 12th  drawn again:

AST:  88

ALT:  90

GGT:  90

Glucose:  102

Platelets:  258

WBC:  3.98

RBC:  4.34

HGB:  14.2

A1C:   5.4

The weird thing was that on this test from the other day, my lymphocytes are high per their values at 48.4, don't know if that means anything or not.

For those of you that don't know my history well, I am not on any treatment, as I said above.

Not too bad, huh?   I must be doing something right.  Granted, my glucose is a little high, but it's been running high for the past 6 mon. since coming off of treatment and yet, my A1C stays in the normal range.  I did ask my doctor about the whole insulin resistance thing and he said that I do not need to worry about it because of the rest of my labs looking good.  So, I don't know what else to think about that.

I am happy for everybody that he SVR'd and I sure hope to join your club some day!

They won't run a viral load on me when I'm not in the process of doing treatment, getting ready to do treatment, or if I was an SVR - then, I suppose that they would run them post treatment.  But, for now, it's not a test they'll run.

A nondiabetic will have a normal A1C of 4 to 6 percent, which works out to an average blood sugar of about 65-135 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) of blood. The higher the number, the more glucose that is in the blood. A well-controlled diabetic should aim for an A1C of less than 7 percent, which is an average blood sugar of about 170 mg/dL.

Susan, your A1C is fine unless your doctor feels like it should be on lower side of normal.  Hubby is a diabetic and his A1C hangs around 6 which the doctor would like to see lower but says it's ok.

So glad you are doing good. I think about you very often. You will be in my prayers. I just had my PCR blood work this morning. It is wait time now. I think I am more worried this time.
Blessings,

Hi there! I remember well your high hopes. and showing little fear, on that 1st dose day of the last trial. And the up's and downs of it all. You've pulled thru the disappointment and I am happy to see that. You have other battles besides tx, or struggles and I know life gets hard.

I apologize for my lack of contact, to you and many as I've let life get wayyyy to busy again. That I have to ...slow down!!

I ask also, any new ideas going on?

Hope to see u soon, like real soon ;) ??

Love & hugs, LL

I'm glad to know you're doing well.  Enjoy your life, Susan...be happy and here's hoping these new treatments in Phase III trials will bring you SVR in the not too distant future.

Best wishes to you.

You need to have an Insulin test.done
either an OGGT (Oral Glucose Tolerannce test) or just a plain fasting Insulin, with glucose
But you need your Insulin Levels.

Let me give an example. Me first
My Glucose on 28th March was 110
My insulin level taken at the same time was 9
This gave me HOMA-IR score of 2.44 and it would have been higher if I had taken an insulin test earlier.
My HOMA-IR is now 1.2 however my glucose is still 101 but my Insulin has dropped to 5

Now this is someone elses glucose level
Glucose 98
now his insulin taken on a different day was 15
His HOMA-IR is 3.6

As you can see we really need our Insulin levels to determine if we are in fact IR.
And don’t let your Dr tell you don’t need it. We are not trying to diagnose Diabetes here.
Anything inside the normal range just means we are not Diabetic, which doesn’t help us much.
We are more interested in whether we are pre diabetic and how insulin resistant we are.

Hi Elaine
No Susan doesnt have diabetes.
But she appears pre diabetic.

This means that being IR is highly likely.

So yes it is checking to see if she is Interferon Resistant.

Thanks, Can-do-man for the compliment.  I didn't mean to make anybody feel bad..., maybe if you saw that I was in a leather jacket, gloves and 3 layers underneath it, you would know that I was feeling cold as a Florida girl..., since we were having a cold snap ourselves as far as FL goes.  For us, we feel 'FREEZING' when it gets in the 40's.  On Sat. when I had that picture made, it was in the 40's with a weee bit of a wind chill factor.  Of course that seems wimpy to you Northern folk with your 3 degrees and wind chill of -10!!!

Bloodwork and pics look great! Other than elevated ALT/AST/GGT (and they're not very high), and the warm jacket in Florida, all looks great. My glucose is usually a little high (100-115) and I worry about it, but my hep doctor says not to worry.

Good luck to you,
Brent

Hi Susan, I'm just glad to hear you're still fighting and know that someday the right combination will be available to you and you will succeed with SVR... I always felt they should allow the triple tx for those who were the guineas... :-) But it's coming... the Vertex stock is hanging in there in spite of a down market and that tells me they are getting close too.
