(Posted on other side, too)

Hi all,

Just wanted to extend kudos to everyone to teaching me everything I ever needed to know about HCV!

I saw my Dr. today (finally) regarding UND at week 17 and I brought him copies of the Berg study and the Drusano study (courtesy of Zazaa - thanks lady.)

I also discussed extending TX for 72 weeks as I'm Genotype 1A, NOT UND at week 12 but UND before week 24. I cited sections of the Berg study supporting this approach and mentioned those on forum (NYGirl, etc.) who have gotten good results with this SOC.

Thanks to Jim's info, I asked for Labcorp HCV NGI Quantasure <2 test for the next PCR and he agreed.

He said I'd taught him a few things he hadn't known and that when I'm finished TX I may have a job there as a research assistant! *LOL*

I said I'd learned everything at medhelp.

All in all, it was a good (although brief) appointment. He was VERY interested in and receptive to everything I presented to him.

If I wasn't facing the prospect of another 48 weeks of SX, I'd be ecstatic.

Thanks!

Wyntre

Congratulations Wyntre,

Getting to that point is a wonderful accomplishment. It takes everything we have, mind, body and spirit working together as one within one to overcome what has to be done. I myself feel very fortunate at this point but am not blind to the fact there are many more dragons that lay before me. Remember the Battle of New Orleans?

It feels a little strange to be saying thank you for your good wishes in extending tx, but thanks!  *LOL*

There is hope for 1A's.

Shelly, you're absolutely right that it's not gonna be easy.  I've been reading your posts since I found forum, in December, 2006, and I know you've had some horrific sx.

I guess you must have been at week 40 or so back then.  My sx have been getting steadily worse. (I'm at 22)  BUT, since I have a shot at clearing the virus now, and in light of almost 6 months invested so far in TX, I'm gonna go for it.  Hope you'll still be around after you reach SVR in 12 weeks to cheer me on!

Grandma, getter, Rose, Elaine,

thanks again.

Wyntre

Thank you all for taking the time to share information and your knowledge.  I was just diagnozed and know very little on the Hep C subject.  What  study are you guys are referring to?

The study is "Extended Treatment Duration for Hepatitis C Virus Type 1: Comparing 48 Versus 72 Weeks of Peginterferon-Alfa-2a Plus Ribavirin" by Berg et al. It shows the benefit for those genotype 1 who are detectible at week 12 but UND at week 24 to extend treatment to 72 weeks.

Thank you.  I read an article last night on Forbes.com mentioning the drug and its effectiveness.
