Lost Medical Records

What can I do about my mother's doctor who claims he can't find her records?
He dismissed her as a patient after more than 40 years because he no longer
wanted to service his internal medicine patients.

The doctor says he' looking. This started last June.

Yes I would find a malpractice lawyer - Doctors can't just toss your medical records if he passed on his patients to another doc at least he'd have a clue where they could be right?

I tried having an attorney call.  They promised they would send the file if the doctor they sent it  to would not deliver. Well, I guess I'll just have to step it up to a malpractice attorney
.

Thanks, I wondered if a malpractice attorney was the way to go.

I have been trying to get past tx (5 wks left) to handle this situation.

The records were also sent to another doctor who says she tossed them

in the trash after I decided she would not be treating my mother. She is

responsible only
