My FAVORITIST - Steven Tyler - Just Finished TX

he's my favorite entertainer in the entire world and has been since I was a child. I've got more pictures of he and I together in my house than maybe my children! ;)

Steven just broke the news that he was dx 3 years ago and just finished 11 months of tx - successfully.

I wish I could have talked to him LOL told him to go for the 72 weeks but..... ;)

I think this is why they said he was "hospitalized" several months ago and cancelled a part of the tour - so he could start.

So...we've got another celb. This one however - no matter what you think - is ARTICULATE and intelligent and well versed on things and I can see him eventually speaking out about it. I know that like people think of us as real druggies cause we have hep that most people see him differently than i do but...

He will be a very good spokesperson for our disease. He's really a wonderful human being who does a LOT of charity type work (ie: donated/built a house for OPrah's Angel Network, for example) and I'm REALLY hoping that he uses this for our benefit.

Looks like NYgirl has already passed judgement:

When you have a mouth THAT BIG well....I'm sure stuff gets in there all of the time!

Like I said, them are some damned lucky goats.

I see a lot of people talking about big lips and big mouths!

Gee foresee. Seems like you're the one steering the conversation south.

Deb, he lives RIGHT near where I grew up. (About an hour from where I live now) He used to shop at the gourmet produce shop I worked at all during high school. LOL If you are ever up for a trip to MA, we could track him down somehow. Or at least stalk him outside his house. LOL :)
Seriously though, I think it is FANTASTIC that an entertainer of this calibur is starting to speak out about hep c. And I wonder if he cleared? I will be looking for more to come from him! Thanks for letting us know.

He and his buddy (Perry?) were known as "The Toxic Twins" for the amount of drugs they used.
BTW, I like him also.

Dear Deb,

This is GREAT news! Thank you so much for sharing it with us and I'm also glad it makes YOU so happy. It must be cool to learn that someone you admire and respect so much has just gone through the same treatment you currently are doing. Maybe you will get a chance to meet him or write him a letter someday and share your feelings directly with him.

When I went to hear football player Rolf Benirschke speak (tx 3 times and successful on the last try) I was so inspired. I did get a chance to thank him personally and have some words with him after he spoke. It made me feel SO GOOD. He is also articulate (he wrote a book about his other illness that led him to the transfusions that gave him Hep C). Given how informed and well-spoken he is, I suggested he write a book about his Hep C experience. We could use all the positive press we could get.

Thanks again for sharing the great news. I am as happy for our Hep C cause as I am for your PERSONAL joy as a result of this news.

All my best,

Aiuta

How did you verify this story regarding Steven Tyler? I have been able to find nothing related to his having or treating HCV, on any news or internet sites. His fan club site is up to date, with news from today, and has no mention of this story. Do you have a link to an article or news summary, etc? I think this is something we need to have officially verified before announcing it as fact on the forum. If I am missing something, please let me know. I can't find a thing about it.

Steven Tyler Opens Up About Battle With Hepatitis C
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has secretly been battling hepatitis C, but he is finally ready to raise awareness of the dangerous disease. Hepatitis C, a viral infection of the blood that can lead to liver disease, is often transmitted through dirty needles.

Recovering drug addict Tyler announced he is slowly getting better after a year of interferon treatments, which strengthen the immune system, and he is planning to speak publicly on Oprah Winfrey's chat show in order to warn people about the infection.

He tells the New York Daily News, "It is nonexistent in my bloodstream ... where it's like a complete cure. I've had hepatitis C for a long time, asymptomatic. I've been pretty quiet about this. The band took a break about three years ago. (My doctor) said now is the time, and it's 11 months of chemotherapy (interferon) so I went on that, and it about killed me.

"Hepatitis C is the one that, of all the people in this room, at least three have it and don't know it. It's the silent killer. I may go on Oprah and talk about this. I hope you don't mind me mentioning that."

Tyler joins fellow celebrity hepatitis sufferers Pamela Anderson, Naomi Judd and Larry Hagman.

I really wanna know the answer to that one too! ;)

At least we know he was an A and he can say WAS. Oh I can't tell you I just am so proud of him. All this time he treated and NOBODY KNEW it wasn't mentionned anywhere = and all this time he was doing treatment and he didn't HAVE to tell anyone - now Oprah. All our letters about HepC to her......maybe she can let us go on? (Well I didn't write her but I should!)

Yup the lead singer of America's greatest rock band :)

He's just a wonderful caring man (of course everything we see is the public persona if you know what I mean and not the "man") and I have a feeling that if he even bothered to annouce it and let the public know (hey after a year of treatment he didn't have any reason to acknowledge it publically - he's not Pam A trying to use it in a divorce or anything)...

I think he will help make inroads for us in public speaking. I am going to try and contact him although it has been years since I have spoken to him ---- this would be a perfect opportunity to help educate the kids and people of "our age" because he's "cool" you know>? He's the freaking rock stars rock star!

What a help he will be. He's been sober for many years now (for real) and certainly knows the risks and the heartbreaks of doing drugs.

He's not the only one, there are many famous people in the arts: musicians, actors, directors and producers, etc...that have this, I wish more would come out of the closet about it and go on more national TV programs, this is one of the only ways to get this on the national news, unfortunately...I happen to know my doc is treating and has treated his fair share...hopefully, this will help everyone who has this, by giving it a face and hopefully more funding...

Im about to go to the link that rev posted and read about him. Hey, after we all storm Steve's house (the house with the topiary), then we can all head up to Bangor to see Stephen King! I know where HIS house is! Psst! It's the one with the wrought iron gargoyle gate! (but don't tell anyone!) LOL We'll make it a Steve weekend! just kidding of course.
On a serious not..I am really sorry to hear that he has Hep C, but hopefully he'll bring it out in the open (as it needs to be)
