New Family Member :)

Wanted to let my old friends know that I had my baby!  He was born on October 12th.  I had an emergency c section because of me getting pre eclampsia so he was quite early and had a stint in the NICU because of underdeveloped lungs.  All that aside, we are all home together and doing well.  He is such a blessing and I ADORE him!   :)

For those of you who do not know, I was a geno 2 and I treated with Peg Intron for 20 weeks.  I was clear at week 4, but not on weight based ribavirin so I split the difference with the "shortened treatment" and went for the middle.  I was SVR as of last November and couldn't wait to have a second child! (My first daughter is 3.5 and got hep c through vertical transmission from me)
He is now here, safely. :)

Congratulations!!!!! Such a joy to get this kind of news on this forum. You are an amazing woman. May you be blessed with many many years of joy.  My kids have given me that and would not have done anything differently - the ones with HCV and the ones without.

congratualtions and glad to hear you are doing well. I am wondering the same as Ladywhy as far as tx for you 3.5. Do doctors wait until the baby is a certain age to tx?

Dancegirl you said:My kids have given me that and would not have done anything differently - the ones with HCV and the ones without.

I am wondering the same thing I asked "ammomy," are the doctors tx your children and if I may ask, how did it happen that you have more than one child with hep c - twins? I hope your children are doing well. I haven't read at what age tx starts for a child and was wondering what the doctors advise. I hate to see any child go thru tx with these awful drugs but I guess it has to be done.
wish you the best.

Thank you all for the well wishes!  He is just a little peanut right now and I am so in love!

As far as my daughter, YES, if we wanted her treated right now, they treat children as young as 3 years old.  However, because of the new drugs on the horizon, my husband and I have opted to wait on treating my daughter.
Her doctor is of the mindset of treating before they go off to school.  However, after going through treatment myself, I am not so sure I can do that to her :(  It is one of those situations where I will always be 2nd guessing my decision.  It is just that I am hopeful her course of treatment will be shorter and less horrible.

Yes, I remember you.  How nice that you checked in to give us this wonderful news.  Congratulations to you and your husband.

It is terrrible to have to make such a major desision for your daughter but it seems to me it would be nice if she didn't have to go to school on the meds.

congrats on your newest family member - my heart aches for your daughter - I would do a second round of this poisons if kids didn't have to do them...

not twins - i unknowingly infected 2 of 4 kids. my odds seem to be 50% chance, not 5%. I didnt know I had it for years. and on the positive side - my son who did tx (daughter has not) breezed through - we are all 1A's so he had to do 48 weeks. young people do not usually experience the degree of side effects that adults do. and there are exceptions on both ends of couyrse, but, in general, tx is tolerated MUCH better - and he was 18 - on the upper end of childhood.
