I understand there are different drugs being tested right now for treatment of Hep C. Something called "status C" mixed with interferon which would directly treat the virus and leave much less side effects etc.etc. Does anyone know of anything that is being tested right now which has positive results that is not released yet, as it is not yet proven/approved? And possibly when that date should be?
The ones that are progressing through FDA trials and show the most promise are Teleprivir and Boceprivir (google them). It appears that each one (competing drug companies) would be added to the current treatment of interferon and ribavirin, but likely for a shorter treatment duration. Best current guess is 2011'ish.
You are probably referring to STAT-C (Specifically Targeted Antiviral Therapy). AS FlGuy mentioned, the new drugs furthest along the pike are Boceprevir and Teleprevir. They are both currently in Phase 3 trials, with a projected arrival to the retail market in about 2011. This date is preliminarily; they have been talking about these drugs being on the shelf in “about tow years” for years now :o). There are many articles available online; one good source to research these is:
However, I think it’s a far stretch to label these compounds “natural” :o).
