Nix list?

Nix list?

My recent thread criticizing the USG for forming a pseudo-HCV action group has been deleted. Is that because it offended people, because it criticized the gov, or just because criticism is verboten on Medhelp? If anyone knows, I´d sure appreciate getting clued in. For example, is there a list of topics we can´t post about? If so, and I had the list, then I wouldn´t end up wasting time posting on them. Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks.

Mike

Anything of a religious or political nature that might posibly irritate or annoy a person under the influence of interferon.

Well, that could be anything. But I don´t frankly see how my post re the pseudo action committee could irritate or annoy someone on Tx. On the contrary, probably cheer them up.

As for Justice Stewart, I don´t think he would know a fried chicken wing if he saw it.

Hi Mike, I happened to mention J&%^$ C@#$#T in a comment to a girl on the forum who was so young and dying and they removed that.  I think a lot of people get offended at anything they want to be offended about.  There is a column in the right hand of the page that states medhelp does not endorse any views or comments stated.  Shouldn't that be enough?  People need to hear the truth about all kinds of things.  Knowledge is power.  People should use the spirit of discernment and gleam what they need and throw out the rest.

MIKE....read this up on fish

Farmed fish are being fed too high on the food chain. Instead of fish eating fish and seaweed, farmed fish commonly are being fed rendered cows and bone meal from animals that never lived in the oceans.

Some cows may be born with a gene variation that gives them a higher risk of later developing mad cow disease or of being carriers without being infected. The solution to this dilemma is for government regulators to ban the feeding of cow meat byproducts or bone meal to farmed fish until the safety of this common practice can be ascertained. The basic problem is that farmed fish are not being fed what they normally would eat.

You think the canned tuna and sardines I'm eating were farmed? I wonder. it's possible, but I tend to think that here in South America they haven't gotten to that stage of the food industry, and that it wouldn't be economically worthwhile for them to farm fish when there is so much open seacoast. But who knows?

The mercury's got me worried more. The f*ing ocean's so polluted now that you have to go 1,000 miles off shore to find uncontaminated water. I used to avoid fish altogether. But it seemed like a reasonable replacement for red meat and is low on cholesterol and LDL. Also it's easy and I'm lazy.

Anyway, ya gotta get some kinda protein, and the meat, chicken, and eggs that are available commercially are all so bad these days that I figure canned fish can't be any worse.

No, they're not farmed. The mercury comes from industrial pollution and it bio-accumulates in certain fish. Instead of just writing off all fish, what you need to do is research it a bit (lots of websites devoted to tracking mercury contamination in fish), and simply choose the fish types that are less contaminated.

BTW eggs are generally a very safe and cheap form of protein, as are most chickens or animals raised on smaller farms and allowed to graze.

Okay, thanks. I'll do a little research. I'm also partially switching over from fish to eggs for protein. At least the eggs don't come out of cans. And here in Argentina the eggs and chickens sold in the little local produce stores are still coming from small-ish farms, rather than agro-biz. Although I suspect they're shooting them full of the same hormones as everywhere else. But at least they haven't got mercury in 'em (I hope).
