Since I joined the forum I have seen a lot of people with genotype 1 reach SVR. I know it's scary right before you start treatment, but I think everyone feels that way. I know I did. I kept the lady at the pharmacy on the phone forever asking her questions.
I went thru 55 weeks of tx and am a GT 1A. Im 7 months post tx and so far have been UNDETECTABLE-
It was very difficult however if I had to do it again I would!
There is lots of hope!

i had geno 1A and also geno 1B and beat them both. Cured now over two years.
There are a LOT of success stories.
I know this is an old thread . but "theres no one like you "
There are lots of geno 1 success stories here. As jd says, weekends are slow around here, so that the time to read through the archives and learn as much as you can.
Tx success is based on many factors. Age, BMI, level of damage, compliance during tx to name a few.
For me, one of the best weapons was knowledge gained here and having a good hepatologist.
I am a geno 1a and just completed 48 weeks of tx. It was doable, but I am VERY glad to be done. So far, all indicators point to success for me.
My daughter is a geno 1a also and she will be waiting for the new drugs to come out so that her treatment time can be cut to 24 weeks. You didn't state whether you had had a biopsy or not. Depending on those results, you may consider waiting for the new drugs as well. Should be by late 2010 or 2011.
Good luck to you.
I know you are scared, but try to keep your eyes on the prize. I had geno 1a, I started treatment in September 2007, and completed in August 2008. I cleared the virus by week 4 and remain clear. It was hard sometimes, but now I am free of Hep C and I don't have that looming over me. Life is good.
Good luck with your treatment. Keep reading and posting here and you will get lots of support. There are plenty of other 1a people here who have treated successfully. This forum is a bit slow on weekends, but believe me, lots of us treated with 1a and are SVR. I hope you will be too.

I am going into a 48 week treatment soon..I am so scared that I am sick to my tummy. I am really worried about the fact that I I have genotype 1a. I guess that its a very resistant strain. I have not ssen much sucess stories with this genotype.I amhoping someone will repond with a sucess story! Please anyone who knows and has or know someone who has please tell me.I have a 15 months old and want so much to be here for him!
I am very grateful to Scring and Plough....for the oppertunity to get my life back...i owe them...if i do, big time
The first few weeks, I threw the empty Telaprevir folders away....they did NOT like that. But I have also left a folder there that still had doses left in it and had to go back and get it.......total pain in the whatfor.
I mean we volunteered for the trials....what do they think we're gonna do---selll our pills, lol??!!??
But, ya...I'd give em' my tree, too if they asked =)
They are keeping track ...ya gotta give credit tho....at least they seem well organized....even my PDA requiresME to give the EXACT TIME ,right to the minute,of taking the BOC
they want the code on the box flap....first i was told to bring in just the small flap...she changed her mind and now wants the whole box....i still remove the other unwanted flaps....she likes that....no extra garbage....the big guns want the codes on the boxes....if thay want my xmas tree...they can have that too
That is very strange, I must say. What do the empty boxes prove?????
But trials are trials, maybe they just want to double check that they did not make a mistake when handing out the meds. Who knows.
While we are big boys and girls, they treat us like little kids. I mean you have to bring back you empty boxes and all your pills so they can count them. Were in this study to beat this thing, Whats an empty box prove???
If you don't want to take the shot just toss the full thing in the sharps, as for the pills whos to say you didn't flush a dose??? We already have to enter evreything in the palm daily.... BTW my hepo and trial nurse thinks is also kinda stupid. Oh well
cando it
I think you guys maybe right ...i think ill leave them in the boxes...i also have to return the boxes,,,i save them...like i said tho....i have the pen top covered with a screw cap....to completelt stop any germs from coming in contact with the pen tip,but i think play it safe....cant blame a guy for trying....and i dont want you worrying about me either...im a big boy....i do know what i am doing...
They make me bring the empty boxs back every 2 weeks.
I was thinking of that... germs.... I keep my boxes of peg in a sealed container in the fridge (as I'm pretty sure that germs like fridges, no matter how often you clean your fridge and even though the fridge has this special anti germ coating) and I only take out 1 syringe at a time. I wash my hands again after I open the container and the box, before I take out the syringe. Better safe than sorry.
I would not recommend doing this. By removing the packaging you are also removing any barrier to help protect your ready pen and making it easier for germs and bacteria to infect your ready pen. I agree the boxes are bigger than they need to be but I'm not will to risk infecting my needle to get around that problem however unlikely that might be.
you cant fresse em ...the pens are just next to the ice in the bag....im ok...dont worry bout me...im smarter that the average bearr Boo Boo.....remember Yogi bear cartoons?
when you take them out of the boxes...you have to protect the top...i am not suggesting anyone elese do this BTW....just my ways
duuuhhhrrr. you recapped them.
I'm too screwed up todya... forget it. I think i'll stop posting. just lurk.. arms too heavy. brain too gogyy. what the heck
You gotta be careful with that. you might freeze them accidentally doing that.
