I lost over 100 lbs during tx.   and after 3 monthspost tx,  had not gained back more than 5 lbs.  but now its more like 5 lbs a month since.  a lb or more each week..  . during treatment they did test my thyroids every few months and it was on the low side of normal, now its definately high, I just looked back thru my labs to be sure.   Oh well.   I guess I knew there were some after effects of the tx that I will have to deal with .

After my very first labs 1 wk into tx my dx told me I was borderline hypothyroid and said I was probably already like this pre-tx all along.  She started my on Synthroid 25 mg's.  After awhile she upped it to 50 mg.  I am finished with tx (1 month) and still take the 50 mg of thyroid medication.  I don't have any sx's from that medicine I think it is what saved me ultimately from any weight gain.  I didn't lose or gain any weight while on tx (48 wks).  Now 1 mo post tx I still maintain my weight.  I would like to try to lose about 10 lbs and hopefully when I start to exercise I will be able to do this.

One of the sx of tx is thyroid problems.  I have also read on this forum that some people do have post tx weight gain which was a concern for me so I insisted that I stay on thyroid medication and they wrote me a 6 mo script.  I just went for my labs yesterday and they are testing the TSH level.  I guess they will adjust my Synthroid accordingly.  I have also heard that in time some have gotten their thyroid back to normal post tx in due time.

Not to worry it is pretty typical and I didn't have any problems with the thyroid medication.  Let us know if they start you on any meds for it and how your next dx's visit goes.

I am not liking what I am reading online about Hypothyroidism.  It really explains alot of things that I have experienced these past years after treatment in 93 and since.  Wow.   I guess there will be more tests.   Doesn't sound like good news at all.

Well  Today is Mike's 50th Bday.   He would not let me have a party for him, and it woudl have pissed him off if I had surprised him with one.   But I am playing it off like we have someplace we have to go to, and then kept messing with him about it all week, as well as his co workers telling him they would see him on sunday.. LOL   Trying to get him to go to Busch Gardens and ride Sheikra, now that he has lost weight and BP is normal.. LOL   what a drop it is..  ( Sheikra that is ).. but its really hot, so I think we are going to relax in the pool,   ( I am at least, trying to talk him into it )   but have to bake his cake, and we are going to movies and dinner later.  )

Will check in later,  Hopefully some one else will have experience with this issue, and will reply.

Yah I know the underactive itself maybe the reason I am gaining weight now.  I don't want to gain any more.  I don't see my doc again till July 7, so maybe they will call me in for the B12 shot and prescribe something for my thyroid.  Hopefully that will take this weight back off.    I am not liking this at all..   I like being a 10.. LOL    Will keep ya updated on the PCR and what doc says about these other 2 things.. although they may refer me to someone who specializes in that.

I believe they treat an underactive thyroid with something like Synthroid. I don't believe this drug will make you gain weight. I think it would have the opposite effect.

Glad to hear about the other results. I hope you are feeling much better. Keeping fingers crossed for the PCR!!!!

Yup.. looks like its hypoactive, and my (LDL) Cholesterol was high too it was 149, triglycerides was only 145. ,Other than the Thyroid and the CHolesterol and low B12, everything else was within normal ranges.

So what do they do about the Thyroid, how is that treated ?   I don't want to gain anymore weight.  I feel it coming on though..
